Root [ROM][DEV]Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview

First boot stuck on LG logo. Logcat let me know that I was missing a file called 'libubuntu_application_api.so' in /system/lib. Luckily, I happened to have a GNex build laying around with that in it. I'm reflashing with it added in right now.

Still a no go. Now, logcat is spamming this line:
Code:
I/ServiceManager( 1979): Waiting for service UbuntuApplicationManager...
Adding the .so in fixed the first error but now I need to find where to get/add UbuntuApplicationManager. Any ideas, d2a?

FYI don't expect much beyond booting into the GUI. Phone WiFi etc. Is all busted in the p930 version.

And no I'm not going to touch this I'm booked already. :p

Don't worry, I wasn't going to ask you to pitch in. I know you're swamped with stuff already. I may pm you with a question or two but otherwise, this will be my learning experience.

IT WORKS! I got it to boot up into the UI. Radios are non-functional as was expected. I wasn't able to test wifi as my home wifi is secured with wpa and the ssid is set to hidden and I'm not changing that. Download links will be up shortly.

Congratulations!

When are you going to have the radio working? I'd totally use it for my daily driver but that's a show stopper for me. /sarcasm :p

I suppose I could try flashing the V7 baseband but then again, I don't want a brick on my hands either. But seriously, if I knew how to make the CDMA radios to work, I would probably try it out for a day just because.

I'm working on it. I did release one if you missed it. It's still a little buggy though. I think I'm actually going to start over from scratch on it. Keep an eye on my other thread for updates.

I just received an email from the ubuntu-touch mailing list that has a guide on how to enable wifi in devices that are having problems with connecting. It involves writing a temporary script to edit the init.rc on boot to point it to the correct wifi modules. Once it's working, a permanent edit to the init.rc can be done. I will be working on this and the brightness bugs over the weekend.

@death2all110: I went ahead and created a wiki page for the Spec on the Ubuntu wiki and updated it to a 'Sort of working' port in the list.

@IMUcarmen and megaghostgamer: I finally feel like I've done something worthwhile for this community but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop working on my kernel. I'm still going to try and get that working right without bugs.

Alright man just trying to let ya have a break. By all means if you wanna keep going on be my guest. Your work is awesome and greatly appreciated. :-)

I'm testing a new build with some changes to the init.iproj.rc that should hopefully allow the screen brightness to change and to turn off.

Update: no deal with the init changes. Screen still doesn't dim or turn off. It seems to be significantly more laggy in the UI though so this build is a scratch.

Do it! I would love to see it in action....of course....my question is....will there be all new mobile apps for ubuntu or will the android apps run with it
Ubuntu will have a store like the play store, for apps, like they do for the pc os. I'm excited to see this... I use Ubuntu @ home and love it's simplicity.

I wonder if they dumbed it down for the average smartphone user?

It is still going to be a very capable OS, even on a mobile platform. As of right now, it's still just a preview without much actual functionality but I've been following the plans and development and it's going to be really powerful if it continues with the plans.

I rooted my spectrum and surprisingly it's not messing up. So I decided to try your ubuntu and when I turn on my phone and the LG logo comes up and then that second pink looking one freezes up. It doesn't boot it up at all. I followed instructions word for word. Thanks Otrigger :)

I would imagine it'll be a lot like android on the back end, but have that desktop feel like a windows phone. I hope to see some support for it, so there will be an extensive app base.

If the second screen you're talking about has the circle in the middle of it with the notification about tweets, that's the lock screen. Swipe from the right edge to unlock it. If not, adb is on by default so try and get me a logcat so I can see what's going on.

I think there is going to be lots of support for it. Honestly, the only part of it that is android is the kernel (with a few things tweaked) and a few other components that android has to optimize it for the mobile environment. One example being it's memory management system.
