Root [ROM][DEV]Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview

unless you're just wanting to see how it is, or get in on the ground level of development, its not all that great atm. barely anything works. And I am talking about on the supported devices. I installed it on my N7 and was really disappointed and felt it a complete waste of time installing it. Has potential and would love to see where its at in 6 months to a year. ;)

I had two reasons for wanting to get this going. First, so the people here without a nexus device could see what it's like, and second, to get going at the ground level. I figured it would be easier to keep things updated as development moves along rather than try a full port of it later on.

I just uploaded a new build. It is untested but it may or may not have the issues with the screen brightness not changing and screen not turning off. If anybody is up for a bit of testing, let me know.

As long as you make a backup before flashing, it wouldn't matter anyway. This is all flashable through CWM.

Have you played with the Firefox OS(can't remember the name). But I played with it on the nexus s 4g and it ran smooth. Has a bad ESN. And my WiFi was being dumb when I flashed it. So IdK how the market or anything works. But they say calls and SMS are working.

I haven't tried it yet. I may look into it though.

Does anyone find it as odd as I do that an Ubuntu build is based off cm10? Kinda seems like they would be based on their own core/base.

I don't know. It's kind of smart at the same time. Android is really efficient at memory management. Why redo all the work that's already been done?

Yea, but then it's not really ubuntu. To me, it would be the same as if windows used it as a base. I know android is a variation of Linux, so it's basically using a variation of itself, but using cyanongen over aosp is odd to me.

In all honesty, the actual android/CM base isn't that big. It's basically the kernel, device-specific drivers, and the OOM management modules. I think the reason they chose CM is because it already has a wide range of supported devices and this makes it easier/faster to enable support for different types of hardware.

I flashed back, I can do that again. How would I grab the logcat?

Open a command prompt in the same folder that you have adb in, type
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.txt
and hit enter when your phone starts booting. Let it run for a minute or two and then hit ctrl + c when you're finished. Pastebin the results and post the link here so I can look over it.

Mine also bootlooped, so I restored from backup the ICS ROM and THAT bootlooped as well. I had to battery pull to remedy the bootlooping.

EDIT: Derp, I realized the flash comes in two parts just now. Downloading the 2nd part. It obviously won't boot unless you have both parts.

Okay, so, clean install, and .... it gets stuck at the LG logo. Waited a half hour, battery pulled, and waited again. No go.

Still no boot. Stops at LG logo.

What does it look like booting and how long does it take?

Logcat please. Also, what order did you flash the zips in? Did you do a clean flash? The boot process will show the LG logo for a few seconds, then a black screen for up to a minute or so and then the Ubuntu lockscreen will come up.

I backed up my rom, wiped data and dalvik, then installed base, then installed utdp then rebooted. Gets to the 2nd LG logo and stops. I'll get a logcat soon as I can get a chance to try again.
