Root [ROM] Elelinux-7.0.0-Hero

I noticed that v0.8 is much more stable however my battery went out really fast this time :( I'm gonna try v0.9 today! :]

Well I've decided to go back to Ele 6.2.0. The GPS, although much better than earlier versions is still not 100% reliable in 0.8/0.9 and this seems to be a wider Gingerbread issue on the Hero. I've liked the increased battery life and better memory management but having a reliable GPS has to take priority over those for me.

Doh, I'm slipping.... meant to post this yesterday. :o

This is really cool to be having such great ongoing Hero support - I'm beginning to doubt any replacement phone will be anywhere near such fun!

I couldn't agree more. I was thinking of getting Defy here in Singapore before Xperia Play, but Hero support is really awesome >.<

this rom is genius. a couple annoyances like not being able to limit rotation individually through four axes (it's either on or off). can't have both vibration and silent (i think it's either or).

but here's the mysterious thing: neocore no longer shows all the graphics, only the lights and smoke in the benchmark test, and then returns a result of 50-51fps! i know the hero doesn't have a dedicated 3d graphics process but elelinux's 2.2 roms worked fine.

Changelog 2011-03-17

Version 1.5

Installation
Wipe of cache and dalvik cache, if you come from previous version

New installation, wipe of all!

Note:
As everyone surely knows, and surely noticed, there is a bug in 2.3.3, it leaks memory from the graphics, many are looking for the error and it was reported to Google.
But the best way so far is that, enter /menu/cm-settings/performance and tick all (Jit, Enable surface dithering (optional, but better graphics), lock home in memory, lockmessaging app in memory), and put VM heap size to the max. In tests it appears that there is a minimum chance of getting the bug to appear when using default launcher that comes with rom.

  • New build
  • Allow the system to reclaim more free RAM when needed on 'low' memory devices (in cm-settings/performance) hope this feature doing so the bug does not occur more.
  • Testing new settings for camera
  • Lots of updates in the source, including new settings for GPS
  • HTC.Elegance v2 is released,lots of new icons etc....
  • Removed the graphical modification of Launcher2, back to basic
  • Testing a more distinct multitouch
  • Added a phone hack, to make the phone ring faster when dialing out, and it also seems to affect incoming calls as well, according hi_robb delay is less now
  • + a lot of other stuff
  • Added a option for the old camera settings, if you feel that it was better

Which is generally considered to be the best 2.3 ROM. This or Cronos?

I don't think it's possible to say at the moment although I have just read that Cronos has managed to sort the graphics memory leak issues that's plaguing everyone.

[Sent from mobile]

I've only ever used this one so I'm unable to compare, sorry. The fact that I've never felt the need to look at others maybe says something about Elelinux's ROM, though. :)

They're pretty much the same, but I think cronos has slightly smoother animations than elelinux. Not the biggest difference in the world, but it makes a big difference to me.

Well I've finally got around to flashing a rom on my formally stock hero [Elelinux-7.0.0-RC2-Hero-v1.5 (2011-03-17)]
My question is CPU frequency what should I set it to? Too many options and I dont fully understand.

My question is CPU frequency what should I set it to?

I'm assuming that you're looking at the CPU Settings in Settings/CyanogenMod settings/Performance.

First important thing.... DON'T check "Set on boot" until you've thoroughly tested your frequency settings.

1. Select the Smartass governor.
2. Start with the Max CPU frequency @ 652MHz and check how your various apps run.
3. Increase the frequency a step at a time, continuing to test various apps and functions.
4. When things get funky (or the handset reboots) you've reached your CPU's limit, so back it off a notch and do some extensive testing for stability. Once you're happy, move onto....
5. Set the Min CPU frequency to 254MHz and check that the handset resumes correctly from standby.
6. Decrease this to 176MHz, or even 19MHz. If you have wake issues increase it a step.
7. Once you're confident that you've found the sweet spots you can enable "Set on boot".
