Root [ROM] GB-CMod7-Beta

good god that was easy! cmod 7 and rooted next to fix usb and mms i cant believe some guy was gonna try and charge e $50 to do that! man this is a sweet rom too so much quicker and better looking thanks to the dev who ported i WILL be donating as soon as i get paid.

I put /data/app support in that rom so anything that you add to /data/app in the rom zip should update just fine. They have problems updating when they are included in /system/app

I mainly installed AnReboot and a file explorer just so that I can save on my hardware buttons and even if I don't have anything installed to my sd-ext I can still access my filesystem.

i downloaded the rom from google docs and took a couple checksums

md5sum e54988282b1426478347b1bb5d064e60 GBCM70.1a2SD.zip
sha1sum bc30f88e933653b1978fbc1048e874dcdfce7258 GBCM70.1a2SD.zip
here is a rapid share link for GBCM70.1a2SD.zip

these are the filesize changes I saw during this process
Google docs = 81MB
My PC = 85952237 Size on disk (displays 82MB actual size)
uploading to Rapidshare = 85.95MB
Rapidshare = 85952KB(85.95MB)
downloaded from rapidshare = 85952237 Size on disk (displays 82MB actual size)

all this tells me is that the inode sizes of the filesystems between google and me/rapidshare are different :)

I use firefox, it downloaded 81mb as far as I can tell, I put it on my phone and its working, well as well as been reported. lol the hardware buttons not lighting up seems to be the most inconvenient thing, I find that it will not stay off and charge. something I did frequently as it charges much faster that way.
Other then that I would say it runs smoother and I like it.

one question- do we make an ext3 or ext 2 partition?

I want to use this so I can be a noob about it or at least help other noobs... will it work?

I had to switch back to RomZero.

It took me about forever to recover my sdcard. Nothing was reading it, so I ended up using a program called GParted that runs off a live disc. Even that was having a time mounting the card but I pulled it out of the reader and stuck it back in and finally i was able to format it.

Haven't had a problem since being back on Zero so I can only assume this rom did the damage. Just don't know how.

does rom zero have have any performance tweaks or better battery life?

that rom is exactly what reppard posted on google docs

usb is working. you have to go into android settings > Applications > Development > and uncheck usb debugging

from what I can see you can have the usb mounted and still use the ext3 for apps.and you can access both from the computer even while the phone is running.

the rom can not include the mms fix right now.(?)

the way the system boots up and how the databases are created are is not known to me for now. The fix could be integrated into the rom though, but you'd still need to reboot to complete the process unless we know where it draws the info from.... It seems the phone requires some sort of settings to be present in order to function after boot, but can't just drop the database in the rom

and by database I mean

Code:
t3084@uFREEDOM:~/$ sqlite3 telephony.db 'select * from carriers;'
1|MetroPCS|311660|310|016|||||proxy.metropcs.net|3128|||http://mms.metropcs.net:3128/mmsc|3|mms|1

thats all it contains...

@t3084 setting up to make a kernel on ubuntu is easy especially if you have experience with making kernels. I'm gonna post a how to on setting up for gingerbread. Hopefully with all of us working together we can make an awesome rom

You make an ext2 and convert it to ext3 it needs to be the first partition on the card and DO NOT create a swap partition

I'm hearing all this stuff about SD cards so here's my question: would it be simplier if I save rom to seperate SD, flash from there, then put my regular SD card back in?

you don't have to do that, you can flash directly from your sd card if you like, this rom is not designed to automatically format your card.

if you would like to utilize the A2SD, you will need to format you card if it does not already contain an ext3 partition.

if you do need to format, BACKUP ALL YOUR STUFF!!! if you have the custom recovery installed, you partition your card though it. this is the simplest way for anyone who doesn't know how. the recovery will format the sdcard to whatever size you want.... as long as it's in increments of 128MB ;) after the format there is another option in the menus that you need to run, SD: ext2 > ext3

maybe someone can get screenshots up

your phone came with under 200MB of rom storage and that fills up fast!, i used 768MB on a class 10 16GB card.

if you make a ext3 partition that ends up being too small someday, you can always get access to the partition and back it up, format a bigger partition and restore the apps back.

thanks for that, i spent all night last night reading and searching and reading and reading till my eyes were hurting. i got enough info get a build environment and downloaded the source code for 2.2 from one of the earlier threads. I know it wasn't 2.2.1 but it should be useful to just poke around in it for awhile.

there is just too much info scattered and we need to straighten it out... if not just for the Optimus M :) since this seems to be the only place for info on it.

what makes searching so difficult is that people don't know what to call things, they use slang or acronyms and hardly know what they mean. how is a new user supposed to even have a clue? :p they just want to use their phone the way they should.

I have a question and i know its gonna seem really nooby but when can i find themes for it? Like what do i search for in the market.

As far as overclocking cm7 I have it...I used the kernal from romzero....flashed cm7 rom then rebooted baack into recovery and flashed the signed metro kernal from getitnowmarketing and now I am running stable at 748 MHz!!!!

did your phone come with 2.2 preloaded or 2.2.1?

How do we actually confirm it is OC? I remember one instance of being able to make my settings run higher on setcpu but they didnt stick at all

I as well have a 2.2 OG phone. Anyone have the kernel? I will test
