Root [ROM] GB-CMod7-Beta

Did you turn off the screen on and screen off animations in the cyanogen mod settings? There has been some confusion over what animation setting before...

Yes. Animations all off as you indicated.

Woke up this morning to fiddle with it more, and now when I power it on it is stuck in the animation of the circle-android lightening thing.

Ugh.

Howa that comparison going?

Sadly it's apples and oranges. I did everything I can on both roms to optimize battery life and sense rom wins hands down.

I didn't expect it, but I think I'm going to stay on sense rom for a moment. I have a few rather large apps that seem to only work on the phone with cm7 that work fine on sd with other roms. And I didn't realize how much longer the gps was taking to sync on cm7 till I flashed sense.

Sense paired with reppards kernel is solid.

Edit: It's almost 8pm now at 70% battery, this time yesterday with cm7 my phone was on the charger. I should have taken SS of juice plotter after a full day on both roms...

someood81,

Ya know, I'm sort of with you on this one. I want to like CM7 better because I understand it a more "advanced" ROM,etc. and you can do more with it, but I really like the look and feel of Sense. I LOVE the 4D scroll on icons (not sure if I can get that on CM7) And love the themes, etc. Again - I'm a total newbie, so I don't know if the same themes are around for both or not.

I may give CM7 another try. I really LOVE the digital battery indicator on sense.

sense uses ADW Launcher EX, and it's that program, available on the market for $3.30, that has the 4D app scroll.

I didnt see anyone else having this issue, but I flashed CM7 beta, set things up, rebooted to recovery and flashed the MMS fix, but it failed stating that it could not chmod something and aborted.

Any idea,

on another note, I did a nandroid backup and wanted to go back to my original ROM, and it fails as well. Is this because the new ROM is 2.3? It says it cannot perform the restore, and suggest i perform adb nandroid....something something restore...

Thanks.

1. Use root explorer to check the file permissions on the MMS fix files, should be 755.

2. Was your battery fully charged? Recovery has a fail safe that kicks in during a restore if your battery is too low.

I will double check but it look like it was having trouble with a file on the actual filesystem.

Anyways, an alternative is to install GO SMS or alternative and SMS works fine.

Will update later today.

EDIT: SO I moved the patch to another folder and tried to change the permissions via terminal and root explorer, but still showed the incorrect permissions, but I tried it anyways. It works now.

Which recovery are you using? Joneidy did us a wonderful service providing 2.2.1 stock users with our first recovery but the GNM recovery that's out works better with the nandroid backup and restores. It will actually backup your ext partition and restore it without any problems.

I would suggest Go launcher EX. it's is just as good if not better AND free! They have replacement contacts manager app, sms app, dialer app, ect.

and CM7 has the option to display the battery % in digital.

I was able to nandroid back to my last backup

Reflashed to CM7, rebooted, and tried to apply the MMS fix:

Cant chown/mod /system/xbin/sqlite3

E:failure at line 10:
set_perm 0 2000 0755 SYSTEM:xbin/sqlite3

Installation aborted

I think there is a bit more, but I forgot to write it down. Anyone?

notice that my home, menu ect buttons dont light up could it be a setting turned off?

They don't light up with this ROM.

Reppard calls it a power-saving feature ;). (meaning it's not a bug so it's prolly not going to get much attention.)

Nothing is wrong with your phone and don't waste any more of your time looking for the setting because it doesn't exist.

so i want to switch back to this rom but even with the mms patch or even putting the mms.apk in the rom i couldnt get it to work with the patch it would say i sent pictures but no one would recieve them and pictures i recieved it would say i got them about 5 hours prior so i have to serch for them help please

This ROM is pretty stable, but as the title says its beta, bugs are expected.

One thing i can say is if you cant use the MMS feature, install GO SMS or an alternative, they work fine.
