Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

Actually, I kinda wanna discard my last post. What's it take to help, code wise. I just remembered about 4 months ago I installed Ubuntu on my computer and just forgot about it. Give me a guide or something on how to set up my kitchen, and tell me what to do, and I'll get right on it. Its summer, school is out, better do something in the mean time lol.

Thanks to those that tested the last tester, and provided feedback. I have not gotten the jumbled text at all since running it, but I have had the occasional sleep of death and soft reboots. I have also noticed, with this latest tester and also the May 6th release that The Simpsons Tapped Out will close and the wifi will be gray instead of blue, when it closes, this may be the cause of other games that require network connection to close. I have no idea what it is, my hunches are our wifi setup, and the new Play services introduced last month, as the problem started just after the Google IO conference, and the roll out of all the new features/scary data mining tools.

So, here is the deal. I yanked the kernel from the May 6th release and put it in a flashable zip. What I am trying to discern is what affects the kernel is bringing to the table and what is in the system that is causing issues.

If you are still using the June tester, I would like you to wipe the cache and install this kernel for a few days to see what changes. As always thank you for any feedback provided. It definitely helps.

Well since I haven't got a response and have been running this combination the past few days, with no issues, I'm leaning toward just putting it together and calling it a final. I don't have the time to test everything, so with out feedback, I don't see any point in shooting in the dark. I think I am just gonna finalize all my ROMs, adding features and things that I have become comfortable with. Mainly kernel stuff for the Sharp and U9000, then I'll make a thread with all ROMs from froyo to JB that I have built. That should keep me busy with a specific goal to accomplish. I will also try to get all current code up on github for anybody who wants to try.

Thanks everybody for the feedback and support.

I know how you feel, brother. With the bulk of the people having left and the lack of time on the home front I know I don't want to do this forever.

I'm in dual phone mode at the moment, the Triumph and an EVO. I'm leaning toward using the EVO fulltime, but still on the lookout for a deal on a more recent phone. All the work here kept my Triumph running for much longer than I would have anticipated, it's much appreciated. I get the feeling that more and more are moving on to more recent vintage phones and that is why the lack of feedback.

I'll give the latest version a try, been running on a version of the original ROM.

Yes please! :)

I'm still running the april version of paranoid on my triumph and very satisfied.

All I'd like / request is a jellybean rom that works the same ( camera photos working/3g data/calls/wifi all working reliably for daily use) and call it good to go.

just thinking out loud.

ps I won't need key lime pie for the triumph ha ha.

Really appreciate all the work you've done...my triumph is like a new phone.

Oh no!!
Could it be... this is the end of the Triumph..? :(
I'm not even using it anymore or on Virgin and this sorta makes me sad...

Darn! My tri got wet last week and borked the TS. I've had to resort to using my intercept (slow). My Epic 4g Touch is coming in the mail though, gonna get it on VM. Just wanted to thank BSydz and Dsm for the work they've put into the device. I know the amount of time, dedication and frustration that comes with being an android developer. Keep your heads up, you both did a great job. You guys rock.

I'm interested in the June 25 tester, but there have hardly been any comments on the radio issues (3G dropping off to Roaming, requiring Airplane Mode on then off or a reboot) that were present in the May 6 build. Does anyone have any feedback to report? Also does the "finalized" kernel from Post #652 make any difference on this?

I know, I know... I could take the time to find out myself. But honestly, I'd rather not have to install a new ROM and restore all my apps/messages/etc., if I don't have to.

BSydz, I'm sorry to hear that you're coming to the end of your road in the development. You & dsmryder don't get nearly enough credit for your hard work and dedication. A big thank you from me for all that you've done for the Triumph community.

Thanks. I've been running it since I built it. The kernel in the June build is what was causing random reboots, that's why I wanted to test the other kernel. Everything has been good for me. I haven't got the roaming issue in a long time, so it may just be coverage. Other than that dunno, don't use it that much other than regular phone stuff and a few games.

Hope this helps.

I've been running the June build with the May kernal for almost two days now. So far so good. I haven't lost phone signal in that time - The June build would lose it once or twice a day, needing to go into airplane mode or reboot to get VM service back. No scrambled text. Still not able to read amperage in Battery Monitor Widget. The touch sensitivity seems a bit twitchy (over sensitive) sometimes and non-responsive at others. It's still better than it used to be. Running InteractiveX, Holo Launcher, Old Folks font theme. I haven't tried GPS yet. Thanks!

For the battery try Current Widget. It's what I used to get the power profile made.

I have been running the May build for some time now and have been very happy with it. If the June build improves upon it I would like to run it, especially if it is going to be the final build for ICS. I don't know how to install the May kernel with the June build though. I have never changed kernels before. I know its probably a stupid question, but any help would be very welcome. Thanks again for all your hard work. I would have gotten rid of the Triumph long ago if not for this:D

I've been running this for a few days now. At first, I didn't use the May kernel and I would get freeze ups and random reboot. Then i switched kernels and its much better. I don't really have any heavy demanding apps, but so far I really like this rom. Thanks for all your time and effort BSydz.

Never mind my last post, like I said I knew it was a stupid question and I didn't see the kernel in BSydz original post about it at first. I really shouldn't do these things going on 3 hours sleep. Will flash June tester and May kernel tomorrow. Thank you all for all the hard work!!

Completed the following a few days ago and everything has been running smooth so far. Thanks BSydz and dsmryder.

  1. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
  2. Wipe Dalvik Cache
  3. Flash pa_triumph-1.6a-25JUN2013-202848.zip
  4. Flash BSydz_PA-kernel-06MAY2013-201202.zip
  5. Flash symlinked-gapps-ics-20120429-signed-Ver3.zip
  6. Reboot

Definitely more stable.... I'm not getting a GS3 till at least Black Friday, still love this phone....

what about google now?

ativeservo if your replying to my post, I could of installed Google Now after step 3. I figured the space freed up in /system by using the symlinked gapps Bsydz created could only help everything run smoother and outweighed the benefits of running Google Now.

Can anyone comment on how Navigation is working with the June release? For me it crashed a great deal in the May version - which is never fun when you are driving around in a new city. :)

The jumbled text issue popped up for a brief moment today. Haven't received a signal drop so far (running June tester with May kernel).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am working on fine tuning everything, and getting a few things worked out, I should have a new tester up in the next week or so. I know things are slowing down around here but I just got my second wind. Things are starting to click, making it easier to fix things. I've had a few revelations about working through errors and how the system and kernel work together. I think I may be able to get some stuff worked out, just need to test and test and test and test again ... lol. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it. :D

I just wanted to thank you for all of your hard work. It is truly amazing what you have been able to do with this phone. It really is like having a new phone. If not for this ROM I would have had to upgrade to a new phone and the $35 a month plan long ago.

I'm not sure what stuff you have to work out, other than the video camera not working (which for me as long as I can take normal pictures its golden:D) everything I have tried with your last tester has worked flawlessly:D If you can make this even better I wish you the best of luck moving forward.
