Root [ROM][July14] Icy Fusion V5.0 | Smooth | Tweaked | Themed | Battery

possibly. I don't know of any off hand though.

no issues..I'll look around..more importantly..do my steps in post above #1323 look OK so I shd. proceed?

Also for Azoeller - I see you mentioned uploading version 4 but I only see version 3.4- is that what you meant and not version 4.0 ?

oops..it is ZV8!! so I need to do the whole dance again  ..
1- Flashing LG signed Firmware - LG Spectrum - RootzWiki - download LG Cab for ZV8 and then run the pwnage tool..
2. Install IcyFusion 4.. (and if it doesnt go smooth install slimdroid and then overwrite with ICYfusion)
3. Run OTA block zip so that these mishaps dont happen and then
4. Install my apps..
5. thank you guys for saving me again ;)

Dear ORT - pls. confirm that I got this right above and I'll proceed. thanks

Why would you cab flash again? V8 looks like it just changed some of the software on the phone (no source released for it yet, so unlikely that they changed anything major).

Just re-run the pwnage tool to get root and CWM then carry on as normal.

I cab flashed V8 just to make sure this worked and to obtain the files. No issued between V8 and the pwnage tool.

any free app that does similar ??

Does what? Monitor battery?

Try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.bstats I've used it before... seems decent.

you can check root by downloading a root checker from the market

you can check your bootloader by seeing if bluetooth is still broken lol I jokes...I'm not sure how to verify that one

If you have a terminal emulator installed (any why wouldn't you?). Just open it and type su. If the prompt changes to # you still have root. If it doesn't you've likely taken an OTA and lost your root and unlocked boot.

thnaks..I just checked (root checker) that I have root access so I shd. run pwnage for just CWM?

And I'm on pageplus so not sure how verizon OTA got to me- it shdn't ? And are the rest of my steps correct to block future OTA?

well I flashed the ota block zip. Now, for some reason, I lost all of my personal stuff on my sd card. (music, pics, vids) and I'm having a hard time hearing people when on a call. I read about the low volume on earlier versions. I didnt wipe anything when I flashed the ota blocker, would that cause problems? Sorry for the amateur questions. Thanks in advance for any advice

The OTA blocker shouldn't have caused these issues I wouldn't think.

All that the OTA blocker is doing (as far as I can tell). Is deleting a single file out of the android system. Then wiping your cache and dalvik cache (most likely to make sure that it isn't cached in either of those).

As long as you haven't somehow changed your partition table (doubtful that you did). This script shouldn't have done anything more than wipe your caches for you. The file that it deletes isn't present on custom roms, so shouldn't affect any of the rom's functionality.

have you used a file explorer to check to see if your files are still on your SD card. All of your app caches are gone, so they're going to have to rebuild their caches of the files on the SD card...

yes,I just checked my sd card using a file explorer and it even erased all my previous rom zip files. the download file is empty

I have no idea then. The ota blocker just contains a script. No part of that script touches the external sd card in the slightest.

You store everything in your downloads file? Seems like you would keep things in other folders.

Anyway. Maybe try re-seating the card or look at it on a computer. The files shouldn't have been removed from the steps you described.

Yeah. You can do cwm and boot. It won't hurt anything.

No idea what pageplus so I can't say.

Also could you confirm - if my bootloader got re-locked by OTA, it should not have allowed me to install ICYFusion 3.4. correct ? so that means bootloader is still unlocked. Do you know how to check it from SuperSU or other means ?

Have you rebooted into CWM since the OTA?

Just run the pwnage tool again, wouldn't hurt and then you'd know for sure ;)

If you can boot to anything other than stock and the stock recovery... You're unlocked. Yes, it really is that simple.

If you booted to ClockworkMod and reflash anything, you're unlocked.

I can't think of anyway to check other than that... but really, any other way would likely be long and drawn out.

I locked my bootloader going to V8 because I cabflashed.

I sincerely doubt that given the size of the OTA, the lack of any source code and the similarity in the baseband string... That this OTA actually flashed a new boot img.

...In fact... Just to squash all the confusion about this, I'm going to go ahead and revert to V7, take the OTA, and find out. I'll report back shortly. Possible in it's own thread.

Started a new thread for the ZV8 update's effect on root.

Long story short, it fails to flash from in CWM from stock V7, so it should do the same from any V7 based rom/kang.

thanks to yoinx for giving me the zv8 nandroid, its time i finally upgrade this to zv8, on version 4.0 i was having errors. so will restart again and call this version 4.1, so V4.1 will be my newest update in the next few days or so

Hey hey.... First of thanks AZ for this rom. Ilove the way it looks and its features. I tried the 3.4 version and I am missing notifications bar. I guess her phone got the v8 update, not sure if that has something to do with it or not?? Also when im in recovery and after installing the rom your "5a. then click disable recovery flash, yes" option never comes up. (I waited over five minutes the third time just to make sure I was not being impatient).. Again not sure if this OTA update is causing these problems or what????? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions??? THANKS A BUNCH!!!!!

The recovery flash option won't always come up. It never comes up with custom ROMs. I'm unsure what causes cwm to prompt you about it. Basically, if it doesn't come up when you reboot system from cwm don't worry. If it does, select to disable it.

So any ideas why I have no notifications bar?? Other then mine that it is because im on zv8 update from carrier??? Also thanks for your help.

I'm not sure why but I ran into the same issue. I worked around it by going from Slimdroid 3 to Fusion 3.3 & then 3.4. Yes, it was the "long way 'round" but I got to my destination--the themed status bar. :D

Good work Man! keeping the lights on:) appreciate all the comments.

One quick rejoinder..How can I install Google Voice Widget on my ICYFusion..for that matter in any ROM. When I go to home screen to add widget..there's no such option

This is based on ics which doesn't have the latest Google now. You need jelly bean to use the latest Google now.

The widget works in cm10.1 or aokp42

I assume you know for sure that it works there. Would you know how's the speed-stability-battery with 10.1 and AOKP42 as compared to ICYF ?

Would really appreciate if other members who've had experience on above can chime in? thanks

I've personally used the google now widget so yes I know it works.

I can't compare cm10.1 or aokp42 to icy fusion because I've never run Icy fusion. I haven't been on ICS since december when CM10 was first released. Never looked back ;]

Read the CM10/AOKP forums, they're both very smooth and stable, really just have to try them each yourself to see which you prefer; personally I prefer CM10.1, but ran AOKP for a while and it's very nice too. Like IMU, I could never go back to a stock based ROM :p

Thanks guys- I think I'll give it a quick try as I really need to use the widget. Hopefully the battery wont be bmuch worse than ICYfusion. I'll try to read forum but if you both could quickly respond- since I'm coming from ICYFusion, can I just wipe data/dalvik and flash CM10.1 AOKP42 zip?
