Root [ROM] LG Motion Year 2014 - updated v.1a

1) can i still mount my sd card as main storage device like i could on stock/bobz rom? (really liked having phone run off sd)
2) will johhnys AOKP baseless/ other baseless roms work ontop of this? (gunna test and see how it works, will edit with feedback)
3) Where do you live so i can order you a pizza?

  1. Yes, if it works on stock then it'll work on this.
  2. No, since this is a stock based rom.
  3. Address unknown lol. :p

^ thanks for the fast reply!
and again, everything seems to be working!
well, ill eat a pizza in your honor. :ridinghorse:

Edit: I tried to do the mount sd card thing, and the boot buddy scripts are not working. just curious if anyone else has tried this or changed anything. thanks in advance.

INTRO

Initially I was going to make a fresh stock ROM from firmware G then I realized apps were outdated so I added updated Apps. Then I realized LG Motion Launcher is too simple so I changed that to a newer version.

Eventually I kept going and going and changed whole bunch of things. I also changed sounds, keyboard and wallpapers. Instead of having simple stock ROM I ended up having updated Motion year 2014 version :)

It's about time, give your good ol motion some new dress (IF you still have Motion lol :))

Updated apps including the most recent Google Playstore and Chrome (as of 07/31/2014)

INSTALL

I recommend you to have version G installed. It may work well with other versions but I am not sure..

1. Download the ZIP file then copy it on the root of external-SD card.

2. Go to CWM by clicking Reboot Recovery @ 2nd-init Recovery app

3. Switch to the External SD mode by clicking Home button.

4. Back up your current rom to your SD card if you haven't done it already.

5. Wipe data/factory reset

6. Wipe cache partition

7. Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache

8. Mount and Storage -> format /Cache

9. Mount and Storate -> format /Data

10. Mount and Storage -> format /System

11. Install Zip from sdcard

12. Choose the .zip file you downloaded and placed on the SD card

13. Wait until installation finishes.

14. If you see any error during installation, DO NOT reboot.
Restore your phone with pre-made Nandroid backup.

15. If install was success Select 'Reboot System Now'
** See below

16. First reboot will take longer than usual.

17. Once it boots, set up your account & test all functions.

** Warning **
If ROM install finishes in 1 second, then there's something wrong with the install even though you see the success message.

There should be some delay when CWM installs this ROM especially when it says 'Installing System Apps and Files.'

Some people tend to skip formatting Cache/Data/System but I highly recommend to do these steps with this phone and this ROM.

UPDATE LOG
07/31/2014 - Version 1a, Google Playstore & TTS bug fixed. Apps updated
07/28/2014 - Version 1 initial upload

You sir are a badass.

its nice to have GPS/mms working 100% of the time with this!
i could never get gps to lock once i flashed cm roms, and mms would always drop in and out. Tried all the fixes but still never worked.

I really miss the benefits of johnnys aokp baseless / xposed JB modules.
think it might be time to get a new phone... love the motion
but i want to learn/grow with the community.

Not sure what phone to get though.. i want a power house!
Thanks for pumping some life back into my good ol' motion!

For the power house, you can't go wrong with Galaxy S4 and S5.
They have top of the line specs and back up by huge developer communities.
You will have fun installing and trying numerouse Stock, CM, AOSP, AOKP based roms.

For budget line, I'd like to recommend LG Optimus F6. The specs are similar to LG Motion but it has later version of OS and good size of developers working on mods already.

While not a power house, the Moto G is a great phone as well. The developer community is out in full force there as well (over on XDA, here not so much). I love my original 16 gig HSPA+ version. The new LTE version it's out and developers are gathering to it as well. It only has 8 gig of storage though, but it has the micro sdcard slot.

If you haven't used a G series from Lg you're missing out. I had the G2 and now G3 and I would never turn back. The G3 is more than pretty dope!

Did you include version f aboot? It's required for Loki I thought. I got stuck on lg logo. I flashed from version g
I would recommend flashing from version f.

I pull out aboot and kernel after software G update. Then loki patched the kernel. I am not still sure if there's any difference between those from F though..

Anyway make sure you completely format /system /cash /data even after factory reset. Then start to flash ROM. If nothing works download ROM again and check MD5 sum just to make sure.

'puyow18' had same problem as yours then solved. Might wanna ask how he did :)

If Loki wasn't updated to be used with g aboot then you just made a brick maker. Appreciate that.
I'm willing to bet he unbricked to f to fix.
This ain't my first rodeo.

I have the original version (I haven't flashed his new version yet) up and running on my Motion. No problems (except what I reported in an earlier post).

I'm about to pull the trigger on the LG G3 (tmobile no contract)
From what i read it comes unlocked (only one so far?)
Seems like a badass phone.

don't know if anyone is still her but i downloaded it, flashed it, started applying my desired settings, turned on power save, and now the internet won't cut on. Any ideas on what to do next
