ROM Manager question

I have just installed Lite'ning ROM v5 and now im trying to back up with ROM manager and want to try Villian and CM. I am getting an error and it seems that the kernel in Lite'ning is not compatible with ROM Manager. Does anyone know which kernel i should flash? Also, it will not allow me to flash other ROM's from what seems to be the same error.

According to the changelog Lite'ning includes the CF-Root kernel, so check in your app drawer for CWM. That's an alternative ROM Manager that works with Samsung-based firmwares, so is also useful if you install VillainROM. I advise keeping a backup of the APK on your external sdcard as you'll need to reinstall it (but not the kernel itself) after flashing a new ROM.

The CyanogenMod kernel is compatible with ROM Manager, as might be expected.

edit: forgot to mention.... nandroid backups are interchangeable between CWM and ROM Manager as they're based on the same source. Provided you restore with the correct tool (CWM when running Samsung-based ROMs or ROM Manager when running CM) backups created with either will work. Booting to recovery and restoring from there will always work.

Hope that makes sense.... I was about to hit the sack when I remembered. :o

I tried using CWM to flash CM and i think im stuck in a boot loop. I have yet to find a good guide on how to use CWM or ROM manager to install custom ROMs. The only one that seemed to lay it out for the "non-power" user like myself was...[Howto] Install CWM, Custom ROM, Flash Player, and Market Fix for 1.1 based ROMs if anyone has a link or can summarize a how to guide, it would be appreciated.

Also, I to fix my boot loop, im thinking that I can boot into download mode and reflash Lite'ning using Odin...is this the way to fix my problem?

And another think...there is a VERY clear guide on installing Lite'ning ROM with Odin...can you use Odin to install Villian or CM? If so, why is it that all the files i find for them are zipped and do not contail any .tar or .md5 files.

That is a great guide...I wish i would have found that before i wrecked my phone! Anyway, Is my plan to use Odin to reinstall Lite'ning going to work? Or do I need to start somewhere else?

All is well, i got villian installed with zero problems thanks to your guide, but following the same procedure, CM would not work. I will have to wait until an official build is released to try that one out i guess.

After trying both Lite'ning and Villian, I prefer Lite'ning GUI over villian and I could not tell a performance difference. Both great ROM's

Thanks for all the tech support!
