Root ROM Manger won't backup/restore

Trying to use ROM Manger to install or backup a ROM, it goes into recovery, and then says it has encountered an error. I've tried flashing all the ClockworkMod recoveries available (3.0.0.5-8) with the same error. Here is the recovery log:

Code:
Starting recovery on Sun May 8 13:41:58 2011
can't open /dev/tty0: No such file or directory
framebuffer: fd 3 (480 x 800)
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1

You might check the file size of the backup. My last 2 backups of CM7 average about 428 MB. Other Roms may be more or less but if you have a real trunicated file size, you can rule it as the cause.

Ah, that must be it as my backups range from 500-600MB.

That sounds good for many Roms. I was thinking if you had a real small file size, it would be indicative of a problem. I've seen these partial backups before. If yours are 500+ I'd say the problem lies elsewhere. You haven't changed your bootloader lately by chance?

Yes, I am able to back up manually just fine, but it is a pain and would be much easier to do in ROMManger (as I used to be able to). The only thing that changed before I noticed the problem was updating the ClockworkMod Recovery. As I said though, I've tried flashing to all the old ones again, but it still doesn't work.

have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling rom manager?

you also might go into your clockwork mod folder(either with root explorer or on your pc) and delete everything but your "backups" folder. if you want to move the backups temporarily to your PC,delete the whole clockworkmod folder,re-install rom manager, then reflash clockwork and see it starts working then.

i know this does not pertain to you(obviously you are experineced in using recovery and working with your phone),but for the new rooters, this is post is exactly why *I* do not like to use (or recomend the use of) rom manager. it is,in my experience, not reliable.

Tried all that, still get the same error though :(
