Root [ROM] Quattrimus JB (CM10, AOKP41)

[UPDATE]
My phone issues seemed to have calmed down after a couple days of use. The only thing I get now is after every reboot my widgets are rearranged, or duplicated, or missing altogether, but I can deal with that since I can redo everything, and I don't use many widgets or pages. (4 widgets on 2 pages)

I also have figured out a setup where I get pretty much 0 lag or stutter. It's actually like my phone has an s4 pro quad core in it :p I got her running pretty darn smooth.

That's on CM10...

I concluded I like CM10 more than AOKP41, and ironically enough it's because CM10 has several settings AOKP41 doesn't. And I don't care what anyone else says, there is a noticeable framerate difference between the two. CM10 definitely runs smoother in every single way. I know a few people have said they don't notice a difference in performance between the two, but I would love to see those people make a video of them running AOKP41 and doing all the normal things like pulling the notification window down, switching between apps, and scrolling apps in the google play store, etc. If I had to guess, I would say CM10 is running at 40+ FPS in most cases, where AOKP41 is running around 30 and sometimes maybe even 25.

Also if someone does deside to make a video, make sure the animations are on, and set to no lower than 1x. .5x is too fast to really see anything and you may as well have them off. The best way to test framerate though would be to have them on 2x or even 5x because that will really show the drop in framerate if it's happening. I personally like 1x, but for the purpose of testing setting it much lower would better show the drops. I can set my phone on any animation speed and get almost perfect animations everytime. I say almost perfect because there are times when I see a slight drop in framerate and nothing in the world of smartphones is perfect...yet...

Every time I tried to use the KP500, all of the text was replaced with ????.

I ended up using the LGNPST that was used for the LEAKED ICS>

Of course I had to recover my MEID using the tool for that.
But that was the only way that I can flash a cab.

Using Win 7 64 BIT.

I could try my old M405 with XP Home but that thing has a whole 512mb. RAM.
It still dual boots Linux MINT 11. I found a 1gig RAM for $30.00 on Amazon..
Did you also get an error about a missing .gif file when trying the KP500 method? I've had a few people come to me with the same issue, and in each case, they had forgotten to install the LG mobile update tool. Just food for thought in case anyone else runs into that issue flashing the .cab file.

Sorry if I'm off topic, but...

Running stock launcher or something else? FWIW, I'm pretty happy with Holo Launcher HD. Seems to be almost the same as stock with just a few extra settings like adjusting screen and drawer grid sizes. I run my desktop in portrait at 5 x 5 + persistent search bar and the app drawer at 5 x 6 and I don't feel squashed at all.

I'm not entirely iSure, but you said both iPeople HAD iPhones? iKnow if you are iGoing iPhone-to-iPhone it will use iMessage automatically. Perhaps her iHusband's phone thinks she still has an iPhone and is trying to iMessage which of course the Spectrum won't iReceive. iThink I had a similar issue back when iHad an iPhone and my father also did but then iSwitched to the big red. iEnded up restoring his iPhone, which fixed it, however there may be an iSetting to clear contact info or never use iMessage for an iContact.
There is a setting to turn iMessage on and off, not sure if there is for certain contacts though.

I use several but mostly I use ADW EX and TSF Shell. I own about every launcher you can think of including Nova Prime, Apex Pro, Launcher Pro Plus, Holo Plus, Next Launcher, SPB Shell, and others but I've narrowed my two favorites down to ADW EX and TSF shell. Both run very smooth and have nice features (though I wish TSF shell had more, but it has improved a lot over the past 9 months). Lately (the past 2 weeks) I've been running ADW EX because it's loaded with features and runs extremely smooth. Plus unlike any other launcher ADW EX forces the coolest of the three animations in JB which is the one where you are switching between apps and the app you are on shoots up while the app you are switching to comes from the bottom (I really like that animation). While in normal operation JB usually only uses this animation when switching from one app to another, ADW EX uses this animation for almost everything. There is no setting for it, but I've concluded that it's doing this because ADW EX must interface with the OS like any other app does and therefore JB uses that animation because it's treating the situation as you being inside of one app and switching to another whenever you open one (I hope I explained that well enough). This is unique to ADW because I've run every other launcher I've named on cm10 and only ADW does this. I use 10x7 grid, (makes my widgets more adjustable, I'm going to post some screenshots on the show me your homescreen thread) no search bar, in portrait, and 6x4 in the app drawer with labels off.

You mentioned you aren't familiar with the LGNPST method. Didn't you see the guide I posted?

yes I did. Thanks. I'll look into it another time because I'm very tired of messing with my phone ATM after a day and a half of trying to get it right. What started off as a simple flash which I figured would take me about an hour or two ended up being a 36 hour nightmare which stopped me from finishing the book I was reading when I wanted too :p

I did look it over and one day when I'm bored I'll try it out, right now my phone is running good enough to where I can deal with it.

Thanks again Blake!

BTW hows the rom coming?

Haven't started on it yet. Been busy with the app.

Care to share your anti lag settings? I might be able to bake some of it into the next release.

Also, I noticed a cpu boost patch in cm10 when I was trying to get aosp going. Not sure if aokp has that or not, but it could explain some of the performance differences.

sure thing. I'll put a post together of all my settings.

I'm just gonna post a bunch of screenshots of my settings. Most of the screenshots are from within pimp my rom. One of my screenshots is of my SD card cache size (change with rom toolbox pro) which I have set to 3072kb, but I wanted to let everyone know I'm using a 32GB class 10 SD card so that setting may not be the best for the stock SD card. I ran a bunch of benchmarks and that setting scored the highest for me.

I also noticed that setting the surface improvement to fix color banding and blur effect made my animations much smoother. I know this is actually backwards in the sense that turning off dithering is suppose to improve performance but I found my animations were horrible when I had it off. Turning it to fix color banding and blur effect made them very smooth.

I will also say that I think using the right launcher will have an effect on your overall experience within the UI of your phone. I found ADW EX and TSF shell to run almost perfect without any lag. Nova runs great as well but there are things I don't like about nova so I don't use it much.

I hope this helps you some tdm, of course you know I'm not an expert with this stuff and I'm more guessing at settings than making an educated decision. I can't explain in detail how or why half the settings I use work, but I can see the difference after applying them.

This is going to be broken up into two post because I have a lot of screenshots :p

Anyone have any dive space errors?
I've been getting not enough storage space on the sdcard messages. Titanium backup is set to use "/storage/sdcard0/titanium backup"

I switched it to just "/sdcard/titanium backup" and it ran fine. Auto detect for the backup location detects the /storage/sdcard0 path as the location for the files.

I installed CM10 and it works perfectly so far. Google Play is telling me that there's an update avaliable for Google Search, but I'm not sure if I should go ahead or refrain, since OP mentioned not to install Googleapps 4.2.

Yes, you update qthst app through the play store... So go ahead. I did and had no issues.

I've been using 4.2 gapps since beta 1 and never have an issue with it; other than the camera not working, (the 4.2 camera that is, any other camera works fine) and the google search that comes with it doesnt work either and must be deleted and installed from the market.

I'm not sure why TDM said not to install it but I suspect it's just to avoid confusion and having to help noobs figure out how to get certain things working right, but I don't know. I do know that 4.2 GAPPS works perfect with 0 issues other than what I already stated.

PS. In case some of you are saying to yourself "thats probably why you were having all those issues before" I'm not that stupid. I am very familiar with how to troubleshoot issues (from working with PC's for years, and building them, and just experience in general with all sorts of hardware and software issues) and I flashed with the 4.1 gapps and even flashed with no gapps just to rule those things out as being an issue. Just wanted to clarify that :]

*running CM10 RC1 w/ 4.2 GAPPS w/ nexus 4 boot animation w/ buttery smooth performance* :]

What's odd is I get a lot of non compatible errors in the play store on beta 4 that I didn't have on beta 1 or 2. I haven't had time to flash the rc.

Because the readme says it is not compatible, and I don't want to have to deal with issues from unsupported software.

If it works for you, great. You know your way around the system more than most users.

That's what I figured. :-)

I actually don't even use most the features but the ability to pinch zoom in the Gmail app is nice

So far I'm really liking the rom. I just have some minor issues to report (and I have checked the bug tracker beforehand)

I seem to be getting these odd text messages from Verizon, which never happened before. Something with the radio I guess?

2.

When I click on Mobile Networks, it just crashes. Not a serious crash, but nevertheless, it does not proceed.

3.
Some odd voodoo stuff was going on when I unplugged the phone (when it was off) from the charger. When I pressed the power button it seemed to be somehow stuck on "charging mode" even though it was disconnected from the charger. The LG screen would show up, then black, then LG again, then the charging battery icon would appear, and it would display as if it was charging the phone.

After removing the battery however it seemed to remedy the issue.

4.
Upon booting, apparently the CyanogenMod boot animation never got an "exit" signal upon the phone entering the lock screen, so I was getting haptic feedback from what was supposed to be the lock screen, but all I could see was the CyanogenMod boot animation, that was still going on. Pressing the power button once had the same effect as closing the screen/locking the phone, and pressing it again turned the screen back on, but the CyanogenMod animation was still on-going.
After a restart however the issue went away. This issue may have been related to my setCPU setting of I believe 4xxMhz minimum and on ondemand governour, but I would have to replicate it to be sure.

Basically has to do with Contact Management/Backup Assistant/BA Plus

2. Have you tried wiping caches/data? What rom are you coming from. More info is required

3. Have been a few reports? I thought this was reported in the tracker? Please confirm and post.

4. Probably setcpu. Try to replicate/see Number 2?
