Root [ROM RELEASE] 2.2-based Byron 4.0.1

Could this package be used to on Byron bare? I mean the update thing

None of these apps are included in Byron Bare. Sure, you could install it, and you'd have those 3 apps as system apps, but it wouldn't be doing the same thing it is here, which is installing new versions of system apps that are already included.

I just flashed this. Love it so far, LOTS of space, less than Bare but I use faceboot etc.

My only question is, DolphinHD does not work now. Mini and the stock browser work fine though.

As a whole I'd say a very solid first effort. This is #1? Looking forward to more and even perhaps a ROM from my bowels will emerge eventually.

DolphinHD does not work now.

Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I don't know if there is some conflict between them? If it comes to it, I can provide you a zip to flash that will zap mini so you can try using HD without it.

I've been playing with Mini and I could probably get used to it. I have Root Explorer and could take out Mini that way if needed but I'll leave it there for now.

I am really enjoying this Byron.

Edit:

My dolphinHD is working now. Odd, but whatever eh?

I downloaded and installed this ROM, It is very fast and responsive.
The only thing I would like to change is a way to add the Car Home App back to the ROM.

I also removed "Dolphin Browser Mini" and the default Browser as I prefer Opera Mini
I also installed "My Verizon" as I use this tool to pay my bill.

Thanks, I really like this ROM

I have updated the main post to reflect the update to Byron 4.0.3. The update zip now links to this newest update. This will update any 4.0.x version of Byron to 4.0.3, so you don't need to do the 4.0.2 update first (but if you did, it won't hurt either).

4.0.3 includes an update to the Facebook application.

Don't wipe anything.

I've added an addon package to add Wifi Tether to Byron. Flashing this over Byron will add Wifi Tether as a system app (odexed of course).

Investigating...

I'm pulling the file until I figure this new problem out. I have an idea but I won't be able to finish building it and testing it until tomorrow.

I posted Byron 4.0.4 updater. Same deal as previous updates, you can apply it over Byron 4.0.1, 4.0.2, or 4.0.3. Do not wipe.

This update includes Google Maps 5.1.

Quick question...if i want to remove some of the odexed apps, do i just delete the apk and odex files? Will they then leave the app drawer?

Yup. That will work. I use Root Explorer and have done that; kind of, I moved the apk and odex to my SD card instead of deleting so I can reinstall.

Previous response was correct, this will work. Depending on your launcher, it may need restarted to reflect the change, but shouldn't in my experience.

Btw i just installed regular byron, added all the apps i use, etc. Over 100mb free memory, and my bluetooth works properly with this rom! Very happy darkxsun! Being able to remove the apps i dont want instead of having to install, and being able to use the bluetooth is perfect for me. Thanks!

I've been using Velocity for most of today and even though I like the performance I'm seriously thinking about going back to Byron.

No hard feelings if you don't. The Velocity Team is brilliant and I applaude their work.

How do they compare on speed? Not benchmarks, but day-to-day interface responsiveness?

Obviously much higher benchmarks but under my normal use they seem very similar. Byron has more free space even after all the add-ons. I do like them both. Maybe I'll switch it up now and then.

Yeah, benchmarks are interesting, but I don't feel they're a good representation of actual speed in use. Maybe they're more relevant with gaming.

Good to hear Byron's holding its own. I never set out to make the only ROM ever needed, but I'm glad to hear it has its place.
