Initial Setup:
Ok, that's diff. Have to let it restart itself? Ok, we'll do that. New Droid 2 boot ani, it's pretty neat. That sync-up was pretty interesting. Especially since it wasn't a sync. Majority of my apps did reload, but of course, I couldn't get anything from the Market, due to that known issue. Clearing cache and such will get around this.

Appearance:
Just a stock theme, and the added wallpapers are just the standard Droid X wallpapers that just about every ROM has incorporated. At the time of this post, there's only a few themes available. I chose the Bugless Evolution.

Performance:
Ok, now this should be the BBeast we all know and love, and is pretty much what you come to expect. Screen transitions are fluid, apps open, perform, and close with no issue and no FCs or lag. All this was with the stock 800MHz kernel. My issue was I could only flash one other kernel, slayher's v.1.6 1100MHz.

App and System Function:
That Market issue was quite annoying, but again, could be worked around. Not being able to flash a diff kernel got on my nerves, but did get one to work finally. The only problem I never found a solution for was the Weather Widget Donate, which only gave me a "Not Available" message. Otherwise, all other apps seemed to work, including WiFi and GPS.

Battery life seemed ok. Never got hot or had an issue. Seemed that smart automatic overclocking did a fairly decent job of allocating the use of power to conserve battery.

Goodies:
I absolutely loved the hot keys when Pete first came out with them in late spring/early summer. But by now, just about every ROM out there has those same options from the Power button. The BBeast app makes it very easy to apply scripts, which most ROMs do not have. And the aforementioned smart automatic overclocking makes SetCPU obsolete, but be careful with it. If you use a kernel that you is too high for your Droid, but you scale back, you will NOT be able to use it with this ROM. Most kernel devs offer multiple MHz versions, however.

Overview:
The masses have been waiting for Pete to make his triumphant return with a promised epic new version of BBeast, and fans will be elated. I was very excited to hear v.5 was out, but after testing it out, I'm rather dissappointed. The speed that BBeast once touted has been equalled and surpassed by just about every ROM out there. Except most of those ROMs offer more in the way in terms of customization.

The hot keys are already in our past. The smart automatic O/Cing really limit what kernels you can use. And the whole let the Droid reboot without touching it plus the Market issue, combined with the automatic brightness issue feel like probs that were never properly addressed before release. I do realize that people here have stated they've been testing this ROM for quite some time, but this whole release feels like it was thrown out there, with very little diff between builds.

Rating:
2 out of 5 stars. Average at best, but issues detract.
 
Can't wait to try it, well, actually I can, I will do it after I hear some feedback and bugs are ironed out ;)

I'm gonna try it out tonight, but have to wait 'till the prospective buyer of my house leaves. He said it should only take about 15 minutes and I cannot wait 'till 2015.

installing now, lets see how this new install process goes!


looks like it has the DX boot animation, but it was very choppy for me, not a big deal just something I noticed.

Once booted seems like everything is going fine, the main screen is completely empty and theres no background to the bottom dock which I kinda like. took maybe 2 minutes to reboot from initial install which isnt bad I guess hard to say for certain since I wasnt sure what to expect. Didn't need to *228 after install which is always welcome in my book. Comes with A BB tools icon in app tray that includes:


Oh and its REALLY SMOOTH. with 1.1 kernel Im having no lag opening app tray switching screens etc.

running TIBU now will update once thats done. So far so good though havent had any FC issues, text and call went through fine, browsing as well.


TIBU is all done no issues encountered during that. Made a BBv0.5 nandroid no issues, flashed Chevys 1.1 ULV loaded fine no boot loop nothing.

@kratos, having the apps in /data didnt seem to effect my storage space at all, I still have 103mb free space available after my data back up which I believe was normal for me
 
Man, I think the servers are getting hammered.. getting a terrible transfer rate..

Tested to see if it was my connection by trying to download another file that was roughly the same size (Charity ROM) and I was getting a solid 350-400kbps.. but only getting 40kbps from Pete's link.. =(

Just wondering because a poster over on droidforums.net made a good point. He pointed out that by Pete moving all the system apps to the data partition, that leaves considerably less room for downloading apps via the market. Just wondering if you (or anyone else for that matter) has noticed any issues with this? I have about 55 Mbs left in my data partition and am wondering if I'm going to have room for all my downloaded apps.

Since I've been testing the v0.5 betas for a while, and I've ported my own theme to it, I thought I'd give some information. First, the framework has changed and the apps have been updated, so the v0.4 themes won't work without some updating.

The good news is that the services.jar from v0.4 works just fine. Also, in framework-res.apk, the following files from v0.4 can be used: (1) in the drawable folder, the progress_horizontal.xml and, (2) from the layout folder, status_bar.xml, status_bar_expanded.xml and status_bar_latest_event_content.xml. You just need to insert those files into the new framework-res.apk.
 
Everything seems to be working fine, except I'm having a wallpaper problem. Cant seem to get it to change from the default grey color that it loads up with. Anyone else have this problem? or that has a solution for me?



edit: nvm, fixed the problem with a simple reboot
