Root {ROM}Suave Smush! Sense UI feel without all the hassle!

did you flash google apps v2? I thought the fix was in there.

it is.

and for anyone wondering, im still working on the situation with white widow.
the thread was locked when there wasnt even a download available. i removed the download link early this morning, IN COMPLIANCE with a mods request. then hours later its locked. sounds fishy to me.

How did the porting go?

vinylfreak was helping me a bit yesterday with it. there seems to be a LOT more work than i realized, its a rom from an HDPI phone so all the images need to be converted to MDPI. FW is working on it, so i may just leave it to him. im HORRIBLY sick today and ive been kinda busy trying to get this new root method working on the DINC

rooted my gf's leak last night, flashed this. been running it on my phone for a little while, never issues. of course, her touch screen wouldn't work. so i tried to flash conap's kernal, but fastboot just kept saying failed, because of a remote or something. not sure of the exact wording. gonna try it all again tonight.

The problem is your bootloader. Right now you're using hboot 1.49 s-on and becsause it's s-on that means it's secured or locked. Follow the instructions at the below post and you will then have hboot 1.49 s-off. This will allow you to use the fastboot command to flash the new kernel.

I installed the S-OFF bootloader, and since I wiped the phone anyway, I reinstalled the ROM. It shows Verizon Wireless now. I must of did something wrong when I flashed it.

Also, another question. If I use Wifi for awhile or something, and I turn it off, sometimes my 3G connection doesn't always restart immediately (it either takes several minutes, or never comes back until I restart). Why is that?

may be a hardware issue with the phone, I've gotten one of my Eris' replaced for that reason.

Well its only doing it with this ROM specifically. Its just very strange.

I also noticed that there is no option for always on mobile network. Could that be it?

And another thing, when I connect to a wifi network, it disconnect the cellular network, and then reconnect. Every time. Or at least that's what the signal indicator shows. I made a phone call while connecting to wifi and it kept the connection, so that's not a huge issue.

Are there any problems that come along with having to flash the other kernel to get the touchscreen working or will it work exactly the same as the original kernel? I want to put this on my wife's eris and don't want her having any problems as she is not tech saavy at all.

For those interested, thanks to ColonelPanic, iv'e figured how how to tell whether or not you will need to use a different kernel before flashing. The issue is the hardware-something that was clear before but the exact cause wasnt. The Eris ships two-as far as i have seen so far-different touchscreen drivers, SYN0104 and MELFAS. You can check your version by booting into Fastboot. and checking under Touch Panel.

The kernel in the rom only works with the SYN0104 touchscreen driver. Me and ColonelPanic are looking for a kernel patch for the MELFAS driver, but until then you can use Conaps kernel.

If you see ColonelPanic around the boards, be sure to thank him. Hes made the White Widow project so much easier on me. Hes the whole reason that its still around.

you will need to push that wlan.ko also.

remember its only needed if your touchscreen doesnt work at all

Yes, unfortunately it needs it and I'm also aware of needing the wlan.ko. I used Titanium backup to restore some things and everything was a little wonky. It was getting late so I just restored the original image and I'm going to take another stab at it tonight. This time I'm going to use MyBackup Pro as it just seems to work better for how I use it vs Titanium backup.

what are you using it for? ive never felt the need to use titanium.

Restore apks with data and some system data like sms and mms. I just tried it because it was free and so many people use it over MyBackup but I definitely prefer MyBackup so that's what I'm going to use tonight.

Just like to say first, I love this rom. It's lightning fast. I decided to root because after the 2.1 ota update, everything was slow and glitchy. This thing is smoother in all operations. When I installed the rom, it was v1. I would like to update to v2 and understand that I need to wipe the dalvik cache.
My question is: How much of my data gets wiped with this? I've read a bit about the dalvik cache. But just wondering if it deletes things like SMS texts and apps and such and if I should be prepared to reinstall them all. Thanks in advance. You guys on this forum have been very helpful!

yes it will delete everything.
you can use apps to backup your texts to your sd card if you want to keep them though.
it also wipes your apps, so use astro to back them up the first time if you want.
after flashing this rom though, if you go to settings>applications there is an apps2sd box. check that and all of your apps will be installed to your sdcard so you never have to worry about needing to re-install them after wiping again.

okay, thanks! I back it all up anyway, just in case. But I was wanting to know so I could guess how long it would take me to have my phone fully functional again. (Was going to do it on a lunch break) Thanks again.

Is the apps2sd greyed out because I don't have an ext2 partition?

btw, I wiped the dalvik and installed v2 and my apps and text messages didn't go anywhere. was I supposed to do a system wipe too?

Sorry for all the questions.
