You can use titanium Backup to backup all your apps and restore after you change roms.

cheers :)

oops.. My bad.
You have to use Flashtool 2.9.1 on this mod.
download the FlashTool and flash the ftf file.

the so-called "multi-touch" functionality is moved to Linux DX Kernel
you have to flash Linux DX Kernel if you want fake "multi-touch"

Requirements:
- Rooted Xperia X8
- xRecovery installed
- ClockworkMod Recovery*
- Latest kernel and latest baseband xxx015

If you are stuck in a boot loop it's because you have got an old baseband xxx006
Download FlashTool and flash Baseband 015

Hello Gabe.. sorry for disturbing you awhile..
I'm a newbie here.. as I know.. before flash the ROM...

Hi, gabe..
reconfirm the steps with you one more time....

1) Update the baseband from 006 to 015
1) Root
2) install xRecovery (copy & paste 3 files into /system/bin)
3) download custom rom to SD card
4) use xRecovery to flash custom rom

but if i wan to flash the rom v018.. then the step is..
1) Update the baseband from 006 to 015
2) Root
3) install xRecovery (copy & paste 3 files into /system/bin)
4) download ClockworkMod Recovery
5) flash the ClockworkMod Recovery zip file using xRecovery
6) download [V018 ROM] GingerDX 2.3 rom to SD card
7) use ClockworkMod to flash the [V018 ROM] GingerDX 2.3 rom NOT using xRecovery to flash..

Am I right? or I got miss out some step??

Hi,

After using both GingerXperia and GingerDX for a while
I can't say which is better... I am currently using GingerXperia v10
I experience better battery life with it.

GingerDX is getting too complicated for me with the Linux Kernel which may be experimental at the moment.

cheers :)

Gabe,

If i am planning to upgrade to GingerXperia v11 from GingerDx v17, what are the brief steps and relevant links(download ROM) that you could help with.

Cheers and thanks in advance .

Hi,

Just follow the same steps...
copy ROM to SD Card
use CWM to flash.
Since you are using the same CM7 ROM you do not need to reset.

cheers :)

hi,

if you are happy with v17 stick with it...
usually only small tweaks are made with subsequent updates.

cheers :)

I have v 0.17 as well. I find it amazing. There's just one thing I'm not happy with: the sound with headphones. I find it too low. Is it just me?

Hello fellows!

From your experience, what's the most stable rom for the X8 with everything including camera functional?

I'm thinking of buying the phone (it's old I know, but I'm budget-constrained :( ) and really don't want to be stuck with SE's eclair forever, but I'm concerned abt running into a lot of trouble with custom roms, being a newbie to Android.

Gabe, you seem to be something of an expert in this field, so maybe you have some good ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

I am no expert. I have been hacking my Xperia X8 thru trial and error ever since I bought the X8. I have been using my Xperia X8 for about 11 months now. I bought the Xperia X8 because I knew there was custom rom software support for it beyond Android Eclair 2.1.1 (2.1.1 is really primitive stuff).

I would highly recommend the Xperia X8 E15i to you (not all Xperia X8 are the same - E15a models are fussy and need baseband mods) because it is easy to mod and almost impossible to "brick" (unless you have a hardware problem).

I am currently using GingerXperia V13 on my Xperia X8. I didn't like the newer versions as it runs better with custom kernels.

I know some devs over at XDA Developers are now developing a custom Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 for the Xperia X8. I hope they will be successful.

cheers :)

Thanks Gabe :) That tip about E15i is useful..I'm assuming this will be specified on a box label.

Oh forgot one thing. Will Galaxy on fire 2 ever work with GingerDx?

hi,

if you are playing games on your Xperia X8 it is recommended to flash LinuxDX kernel by Doxianh.

so check it out here <--- here

after you flash the custom kernel you can play the majority of the popular games (highly recommended). but be warned you might brick your phone if you do this wrongly.

cheers :)
