So it's been a little while since I've installed V0.3 without the turbo or OC kernel and there are still no problems! I can't believe how well it's all working! My sister has a Droid 2 and is jealous of how well my little Ally is running (well that and the keyboard HAHAHA)! Great job Trident! Super excited about the "Are you ready" V0.4 update, though I haven't done the back up yet, I want a class 6 SD card for V0.4. Which is why I'm writing today! I want to copy my entire sd card over to a Class 6 one but I don't know how to view the files and partitions on the sd card I have. Does anyone have a decent method for "ghosting" an SD card using windows (windows xp pro)?

Ghosting an SDcard does not work in xp. The partition you want to ghost is a ext3 partition. You may be able to use a linux live (ubuntu) cd but there is a more trusted method.

Guide to update SDcard from class 2-4 to class 6
1) Go to ROM manager and reboot to recovery or Power off phone then boot holding SEND+MENU+PWR and let go when you see LG Logo.
2) Backup your NAND and ext3 with clockworkmod NANDROID. You now have the ext3 partition backed up.

3) Goto partitions menu -> mount USB storage then backup SD card to XP then end USB mount
3) Use power button to turn off or just pull battery
4) Put SD card in
5) boot holding SEND+MENU+PWR and let go when you see LG Logo.
6) Goto Advanced -> Partition SD card (if partition setting is not there then turn off phone reinsert old sd card and use Amon-RA recovery which can be found with ROM manager)
7) Goto partitions menu -> mount USB storage then restore SD card from XP then end USB mount
8) Wipe Data/Factory reset and do advanced -> Clear Davlik cache for shits and giggles
8) Restore your NAND and ext3 with clockworkmod NANDROID. You now have the ext3 partition restored.

If you have issues or bugs then I guess you should just restore your nand with old sd card and backup apps with titanium or velocitys new app backup tool and just reinstall the rom.

I don't have nandroid as a choice I have CWR 2.5.0.5 and it offers a backup but it says it can't mount ext3.

I've downloaded some of the LG apk's that are in the OP and have tried to install them using Astro and they all come back saying application not installed. Any clues on how I can get these apk's to install?

What is more stable and has less bugs Velocity 0.3 or 0.2? I don't really care about the app2sd feature. I just want stable and no bugs for very thing to work... Also should I do turbo4 or overclock?

Make sure Settings > Applications > Unknown Sources is checked if you are trying to install from sdcard.

Yeah, I did that and still no luck. Anyone else have any suggestions out there?

The directions are in the first post, but hidden. Took me a while to notice the button that said show. Here's what you need to do:

To install these apps back to the system/app partition, simply do the following:
1. Place the desired app on the root of your SD card
2. Launch Terminal Emulator
3. Type "su"
4. Type "sys -rw"
5. Type "cat /sdcard/example.apk > /system/app/example.apk"
6. Type "sys -ro"

So, if I understand correctly, Velocity v.03 has a2sd built in, yes? some of my apps are installed in the a2sd partition (verified with Ti backup), my newest apps, about 30 MB have installed in internal memory.

Did I do something wrong? If I reflash the Velocity ROM will it move the currently installed apps to the a2sd partition? or do I need to install the a2sd flash from Killertones thread?

You need to partition ur sdcard 1st.

I did that. But, thank you for attempting to help.

What i have done is re-flash Velocity: cleared cache and dalvik and I wiped the ext partition. When it booted all of my apps were gone. Then i Nand restored.

I tried reflashing Velocity without clearing the sd, all apps appear, but they are still on the internal memory (verified with Ti backup).

I reference: http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/191916-a2sd-multi-roms-ally.html

when i run:
#/system/bin/a2sd check
result = /system/bin/a2sd: not found

then:
Mine doesn't show that, how do i fix it?

From terminal:
su
# /system/bin/a2sd cachesd

result = /system/bin/a2sd: not found

Any suggestions?

I had the exact same problem. I couldn't get a2sd to kick in with velocity .3 and got the same error message you did. I ended up just flashing "a2sd_ally_OC.zip" which i got from another thread here and it worked great and was automatic. I'll try to dig around and find the thread I downloaded it from.

**edit** - I used the a2sd_ally_Oc.zip from here -
http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/191916-a2sd-multi-roms-ally.html and it worked perfectly.

This was gonna be the next step.... very glad to hear that someone else did it and it worked.

I tried using the multi ROMs method to no avail. Ultimately i did get the apps to SD to work but I had to flash to a new ROM first, then partition the SD again, move the back up of the SD back to the card, reinstall Velocity .03, clear data and caches and ext. Thankfully, after learning a painful lesson about having backups handy (last month), i was able to download Ti backup, restore everything and all apps installed to the SD.

So far I have left the Dalvik on the internal memory as I can't see needing "more" memory on it, because i want to install apps to the SD.

After you flash it you might want to run this -

From terminal:
su
# /system/bin/a2sd cachesd

that will put the davlik cache on your sd card and free up even more internal memory. I tried it with the cache both internal and on SD and didn't see a performance difference one way or the other, so I'm keeping it on the SD card to free up the space. I also have a swap partition setup on my SD card which A2SD is apparently using automatically.

Did you partiton your sdcard after flashing velocity v0.3? If so thats the wrong method as i have encountered errors with downloaded apps. You should partion the sdcard before flashing velocity. You will not see the ext partiton in windows because windows does not support or use the ext file system, linux does. You will need some 3rd party program for that or install a linux distro.

...There is a free windows kernel mode driver (.."native" ext in windows) available for ext filesystems; I don't know if supports formatting, but it works great for the usual read, write, rename, etc sort of file operations (I'm a linux desktop user by default, so I use linux for formatting).

I've used it from XP and Vista, but I'm not sure about Win 7.

Take a look here: Ext2 IFS For Windows

just flashed velocity .3 last night. checked my phones memory this morning and its showing i only have 34.71mb of internal memory available. I have a 4gb memory card in the phone that the apps should have been transfered too. how much memory does velocity take up and how much memory should i have around?
