Root [ROM] ZV4 updated stock ROM

So i got everything working great, thanks. I only had one problem. After flashing the rom and radio i didnt select yes to fix a maybe broken root. After booting up i had no root but i took a chance with Towelroot again and it worked!!! So now i have ZV4 software and c8 baseband with root! Thank you so much for this!

Hmm... maybe towelroot has been updated?

Without zeroing out Laf partition

1-Download and install rom installer...
2-Save this fastboot img to sd card ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzsQwTUZjTO5eHVPRDRiNXBpSzQ/view?usp=sharing )..its really just a trwp recovery that doesnt work on the Volt...
3-Using Rom Installer, make a backup of your recovery...
4-Now in Rom Installer, flash the fastboot img to recovery partition...
5-Reboot to recovery...Should give error but fastboot should be working

If you want recovery back just boot into phone and reflash your backup you made back to recovery partition using Rom Installer.
Will this do the update or do I still need a computer? Sorry I'm totally lost now! Please help!

You still need a computer to run fastboot commands, being as the only custom recovery working is ran through fastboot boot xxx.img. This is if you arent comfortable using dd comand to wipe the laf.img

im still lost bro where do i put the zv4 updated rom on the sd card ? and do i have to do the tutorial to get my phone out of dl mode b4 i can get into fast boot and do i do this ? b4 i enter the commands in the terminal

Just wanted to point out that I seem to be getting better indoor reception since updating the radio. Not sure about travel coverage yet. :)

My reception didn't seem to get better at my house, but I know it'll be different for everyone.

First work on getting your phone into fastboot mode. Read the tutorials and follow the links that I've posted.

I got it to work. here is a screenshot of fastboot on my pc. I was so happy to see cwm again! Started fresh and flashed the superuser zip you posted too. I followed your directions exactly, also I put my adb and fastboot folder in my user directory on windows, and created a folder called "phone" in my c: drive and placed cwma1.img in there so I could cd to it without confusing the path... I got my adb and fastboot stuff here from xda. [TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers -

Thanks everyone. Seems to be working now after a few steps

Was rooted but took the update. Used the linked guide to downgrade to V3. Used towelroot to root V3 and downloaded/installed the apks for SuperSU and Terminal. Followed this guide, only hiccup was really getting all the different drivers installed. Flashed to V4, booted, but radio was up. Flashed radio, rebooted, no phone/data. ##update# and reboots, and then it was good, although 4G hasn't shown up yet

edit: Also did not have root once I checked it with rootchecker....Towelroot did work correctly though. I did lose fastboot somewhere in the process

flashify only flashes recovery and kernel im pretty sure.

Actually I think flashify allows you to put a zip in to flash from recovery, that is, IF we could flash recovery to our phone. Otherwise I believe you could still do it, but you'd still have to be following the steps to boot into fastboot and booting up recovery. So it's not quite useless but it's not exactly practical since it's the same amount of work.

I figured it wouldn't just work but oh well. My biggest problem is I honestly have problems following directions but I've figured out other, difficult androids, but I can't figure out where to find lg drivers so I can install them onto the computer I plan to use so it will recognize my Volt, than I'm pretty sure I understand the directions, I just wanna get it right the 1st. time! Thanx for all your help donjuro!

Our tutorials should be centralized and uniform so people can stop asking questions like this (because the answers do exist in the forums). I'm going to sleep right now but maybe someone can gather some info and pm a mod to have them update the all things root guide, this important info will be easier to find and maybe it'll attract new mods.

So I just did the swap to v4. Superuser didn't work for me, had to use supersu (have always had more success with supersu than Superuser.)

With v3 I could not change font or font size in settings and daydream was broken. In v4 these now work for me.

Also the feature to keep screen on with the camera detecting your face seems to work better as well.

Not sure which ones you've tried but this is the one I used and it worked.

It is actually an updated version 3.12.3

I will try. I think it might have been because I did not have usb debugging checked. I figured that out too late to try again last night. Thanks

I think I can get this to work, but I know just enough to get by. I kinda had to figure out how to get everything working. I have never used fastboot before, and for someone who has never used it I think the instructions are hard, not enough details for me. At first glance it seems easy enough, download rom, download radio, download cwm, then just backup your laf then nuke it, then just boot into fastboot, then cwm and flash. But it was a lot harder in practice. It didn't help that I couldn't the lg drivers to work and couldn't get the rom and radio on my sd card. I did figure it out, I think, and believe I will get the update working. Thanks for everyone who has figured this stuff out though.

Yes thank you because non of this makes no since and imma be mad asf if my phone brick and not just redirecting to other post

Not to be a jerk but if someone posting the link to the relevant article means you cant follow along perhaps you shouldn't be trying to root this phone.

All needed articles are posted on the first page and the article titles are not misleading.

Yes it does need to be put together in the sticky, but if the lack of all Info needed in one spot is really that big a problem to you, then again - you probably shouldn't be doing it.
