Root ROMs on SD card

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question (if not, please move it or direct me elsewhere). I'm wondering about the custom ROM zip files that I place on my SD card (as well as any other zips like kernels and themes). Once I load the ROM/kernel/theme do I need to keep the file on my SD card or can I delete it (to free up space on my card)? I'm nowhere near filling up my SD card but I'd like to know if I ever get close to that point. Thanks!

you dont have to keep them although it is a good idea to have 1 or 2 there just incase you need them for some reason
