Root [ROOT] 2.3.6 Update

IM FINALLY ROOTED took me about 5 hours because nothing else was working BUT TY kind sir im finally rooted it took me A LONG TIME tho to understand your direction because This is my First Android phone and i got it 2 days ago lol

How did you get it to stay? Did you just follow the directions or did you change anything? And do you know if superuser and the binary can be updated?

i did it the way it says here, and it stayed. the binary cant be updated as the one included in here is still the current one but there is an update to superuser however i have not done it cause the in the superuser description in the play store it even says that if the app is working for you dont bother updating. also i dont use TiBu cause i know it can take away root in this case

Thanks a lot. Darn TiBu is my life. I'll find a way to make it work (hopefully)
 
Hey, I'm new to this rooting thing, I completely did the CWM Mod correctly, But now I can't seem to understand the SD card stuff. It's confusing, So what file do I put on the SD card for flashing and where? And to flash I know its POWER + VOL DOWN+ BACK but when I get into CWN do I select apply sdcard:update.zip?

And also could you make a youtube video explaining how to do all of this? I am willing to pay/donate money to you for your time. Please answer back soon, Thanks!

No need for any YouTube video...
Just put the zip file on the root of your sdcard ... then go into recovery and go to install zip from sdcard then choose zip then look for the 2.3.6 root zip and select it and install it

It still doesn't work or im not getting it right (Pretty sure its number 2)
Please help, im getting confused with what to do with the recovery, zip file, sd card, etc... So I did the CWM Mod, now where do I put what?

Please make it extremely detailed..

Plug you phone into your PC via USB connection ...
Download the zip file from this thread...
Copy and paste it to your sdcard (it doesn't matter which folder it is,as long as you can find it)
Power off your phone..
Hold on to the following keys..
Volume down, back button, and power (all of these keys together until you see the Samsung.com logo)
That should put you in cwm recovery 5.0.2.7
Use the volume key to navigate throughout the menu...
Use the volume key and navigate to install zip from sdcard...(click the home button to select it)
The select choose zip from SD card and locate the zip file you transferred to your sdcard and select it ... then click install and wait for it to install then that's it...

That's because you dont have cwm installed. You still have the stock recovery installed
 
I would just like to thank you PlayfulGod because it only took me 5 minutes to read and root my Samsung Admire 2.3.6. Thank you very much.
 
Maybe I didn't get the first post... I have Monster 5.3 Rom installed. I can't install the 2.3.6 update for some reason.

It tells me it worked fine and completed and all that, but go to my phone and version 2.3.4 is there?

Any help appreciated. Thanks

FYI: This is the official update.. Not sure if yours is different or not. :|

Are you sure you're actually running the update correctly? Making sure everything is connected and the phone in download mode?
 
Hello guys, I installed cwm and superuser afterwards, root checker detects "superuser" installed but phone is still not rooted due to me not changing the ROM yet and "su", "busybox", "sudo" is not detected.

1: How do I exactly back up my previous ROM before adding a new one or did I already install a new one when I installed odin?

2: Do I really need to change my ROM to detect my phone is rooted?

3: do I also need to install titanium 'something' to backup my previous ROM or does odin do that, if so then how do I use odin to backup my rom files to restore if I mess up my phone?

4: Also noticed my 3g connection isn't working no more (problems with security certificate, have to keep pressing continue but it keeps popping up) why?

5: How do I get rid of bloatwire on my metro?

never mind guy's, after getting help from "KageBeast" I was able to root my phone and Install all the necessary functions for it to work. Glad to be a part of the rooted family lol! now I can tether my 3g into a wifi hotspot.......and man I sure do have a lot more memory space (though due to all the apps I installed before not being there and having to add all of them again.) Yet mostly having all the apps re-installed, I still have a good amount of Internal memory space left, cool. Next........try to get adobe flash player to work on my phone, if it's possible now that my phone is rooted (if that matters lol). The link below has all the questions and help I got from him, hopefully it helps one of you guys out with the same issues and unanswered questions I had. Man I am soooo sleepy, been re-adding all these apps and it's 3:16am on my computer right now. I've been up waaay too long lol!, am definitely going to pass out when I go to sleep....like right now, hehe.

Anyone else struggling with Android Apex on first boot? Something started eating my phone's internal space for breakfast this morning and so i did a factory reset and the went in to CWM and did the install from zip, and it has hung for at least 3 hours total. Any hints?
 
I've no idea where to start. All the reading I have done and I am still lost. :confused: I have the samsung admire with the update 2.3.6. I want to root the phone just so that I can only get rid of system apps that are taking up memory and I never use them. How do I go about doing this?

Download that package in the OP then flash though recovery.
