Root Root 5.7.893 and NOT restore to 5.5.893?

Hey guys,

I know you can restore to factory and THEN go to 5.7.893, but I was curious if anyone has heard of someone rooting 5.7.893 without restoring?

It isn't a giant deal, and not a big deal if I can't, just curious.

its been pointed out that the single ota updates break webtop. the full upgrade from 5.5.886 > 5.7.893 is the update you want. it also may contains things the single updates dont have. once you update to 5.5.893 like most rooted people have done you cany use the full update. you have to do all the individual updates revert back to 5.5.886 and then do full update. otherwise youll lose some of the advantages of the full update.
 
Actually, it's now been pointed you that the MR1 (aka 5.6.893) is the one in the chain that breaks Webtop. FWIW, I haven't ascertained whether you can apply the first (smaller / partial) 5.7.893 over the 5.5.893, but I think you can....
 
I am already on 5.7.893 and don't really care nor need Webtop...

I was asking if there is a root fix out for 5.7.893 yet WITHOUT having to go back to stock 5.5.893 and starting over...

Unfortunately I keep getting an error saying that "Bad luck our crush did not succeed" and it fails.

The only help I can find on Google is to retry it

I ran it literally 10 times and no luck, I also tried turning encryption off, and then turning USB debugging on and off and no luck.

So, I think I am going to wait until a more stable one click root method comes out...

If you guys hear anything let me know.

Download the follow file: it contains the exploit, su, Superuser

Download exploit --->My Droid World Forums

1) Unzip contents of folder to your Desktop

2) open a command terminal and navigate to the folder (cd Desktop/Exploit)

3) type the following commands
---> adb push zerg /data/local
---> adb push su /data/local
---> adb push Superuser.apk /data/local
---> adb shell
---> cd /data/local
---> chmod 777 zerg
---> ./zerg

4) Wait for the root to be gained

5) type the following commands
---> adb shell (only type this if you are no longer in shell@targa)
---> mount -o rw,remount /dev/null /system
---> cat /data/local/su > /system/bin/su
---> cat /data/local/Superuser.apk > /system/app/Superuser.apk
---> chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
---> chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
---> reboot

Failed.

It keeps saying that it doesn't have permission to change local.prop and add busybox...

But it succeeds before that...

I am trying to hand type them to see if it is a typing error, but the damn thing says adb is not recognized...

I got it to accept typed commands, but now it says it Cannot Copy boomsh.: Permission Denied.

I officially have root on my phone again, I had to HAND type it but it worked!!!

All thanks go to p3. I just happened to read the thread a few nights ago and someone else could not get root but this worked for them.
 
I recently lost root. Still have the SU icon, but anytime I open a root app, such as root explorer I get the message "root explorer was denied superuser permissions". This happens with all root apps. I am trying the one click root from this thread. phone is rebooting now...

Lol - P3's post is the original manual root method. That is why I go manual - it works where apps / one click solutions may not: 1) b/c of a timing issue, 2) lack of foresight for checking to see if a particular file already exists, etc...

no superuser app installed...I think. I install titanium backup and that fails to get root.


I used 1-click exploit and it told me it rooted it.

But titanium fails to get root.
 
You might need to do a factory restore clear everything out and then try and root again using R3L3As3Droot And 43V3R Root For The Bionic V2.1 - RootzWiki

or the manual method posted above.


try the link above and select step 1 even thou you are not bootlooping. This will put your system back on 5.5.886 but you will have the updated kernel and radio still and root. you can then flash the 5.7.893 file and maintain root
 
Shoudl I run:

R3L3AS3DRootMine.bat

or
R3L3AS3DRoot.bat

Instructions says to use R3L3AS3DRoot.bat. but just want to be sure.
 
so, I'm getting an error when booting:

the application superuser (process.com.noshufou.andriod.su) has stooped unexpectedly.


So should i wipe to factory settings? and start over?
 
you won't need to do a factory reset. When you select option 1 it will do it for you.

So i went into AP fastboot and ran the bat file and got this, but the phone never rebooted.

Did you reboot your phone into fastboot mode first?

The biggest problem here is that you have to follow the steps carefully. If you do not, then you're going to mess things up.

Did you extract all the files in the zip into one folder? Running the bat file within the zip file won't work correctly. Especially using Win7 which has it's own zip extractor. Make sure you're in AP Fastboot, make sure you have the correct drivers for the phone (links are posted in the bat file), and make sure that all the files within that zip you downloaded are all in the same directory.
