Root Root After update Question for the Pros

We have a store out here in Vegas and we root customer phones for a small fee however after this last update we are getting a lot of people complaining that they lost the Wifi Hotspot and other features you have when your root.

So my question is how do we get root back after the update. We do not install custom ROMs for them just root.

Do we download the newest update that Monster has and rename it "update.zip" and install it this way or...

I did a lot of research but could not get a concrete answer. Also none of the customers have a custom Recovery.

Any help would be great and I sure several others will benefit with your answers.

Indeed, you would need to use the ZVC update from |Monster| Located >Here<
Make sure you are on a non-updated Stock ROM before hand. and I would recommend installing Root and CWM before hand. You can use |Monster|'s CWM >Here< + >OneClick Root< (says it is for the Esteem but it will work on the Marquee and has been tested.)

I understand what your saying, however this is the situation.

Lets say I have a rooted marquee with the old software and I update it with the new over the air that just came in.

No the phone still has super user but does not have root any longer. What does a person do if they updated it but does not have clockwork mod.

Ahh yes, seems you are one of the many in the predicament of using the OTA update instead of manually flashing it to keep the Root + CWM. At this time you will have to hang tight until the devs can get an exploit to work for the OTA update.

If you are knowledgeable on ABD you could pull the boot.img and recovery.img from the OTA Update for |Monster|.
 
Well I am fine its just the angry mob of customers that aren't lol

I am pretty savy but to do that for all the customers... I guess we will have to hang on a bit.
 
Not for everyone.. |Monster| just needs the files from one Marquee that did the OTA update to make a working exploit I'd assume.

im new so plz explain ROM to me... when you say stock does that mean not aftermarket upgrades or... fresh from the box no factory updates ? also plz explain cwm to me and how it works thx
 
yah the notification is annoying as hell....comes in every 5-10 min making you update the phone. Im not touching anything til a new exploit is released
 
Would doing the ota update cause any serious problems if i just do it with my rooted phone? other than it not being rooted anymore and not being able to use any apps that would require root? I already bricked one phone trying to mess with all this cwm stuff...and i'm not very confident in trying it again, at least not manually. I've been just avoiding the update pop ups on the new phone i got but its only a matter of time until i mess up and do it accidentally :o
 
I picked up my LG Marquee today. I held off on updating until I got the phone rooted. I rooted the phone, then installed SuperSU, then installed OTA Rootkeeper. I backed up the root and then did a temporary unroot. I updated then restored root and everything seems to be OK. I am going to back up with titanium backup then see if everything is OK. :)

Update: TB went flawless! :D

ota rootkeeper will not work. There are many confirmations on that already

Yes it is... I had to get a new Marquee last week from Best Buy and since I had so much trouble with the OTA and rooted updates I had them do the update...

No root, but I am waiting patiently for a new exploit.

But I do think with this new update the phone runs smoother and there is no CIQ.

(There is just too much confusion about what does what for the Sprint Version and the Boost version. You have to really read the posts.)

The stuff that is posted here is just a little bit beyond my capabilities (and a little unclear) as of right now.

We all waited for exploits before, so I can wait some more.

Yeah, I quit using Superuser about a month ago. I kept having issues with binary updates and having rooted apps work. SuperSU doesn't seem to have those issues. Try my method and see if you can duplicate it.

This is what I did:
1. I rooted the phone with the old firmware (pre zv4)
2. I then downloaded,installed, and activated SuperSU. I tested to see if it was working with Rootchecker.
3. I then downloaded and installed OTA Rootkeeper.
4. I backed up the root in OTA Rootkeeper and then did a temporary unroot.
5. I updated the firmware OTA to zv4.
6. I then restored root.

Keep in mind that I do not have CWM installed at this time, and am using a stock recovery.

will u try flashing cwm just to make sure?
 
ive been reading this thread and many others to no avail. i have a sprint lg marquee and had root untill the update was pushed through. root worked fine untill the update then everything went downhill. i used root checker to conform root and it said no root yet google movies says im rooted. su cannot be deleted and the su file and all other files in the root/system/bin folder are gone. root/system/app has superuser.apk and root/system/xbin has su. im looking to return my phone back to stock.
