Root helping please

Hate to dig into a resolved thread but after reading through this I'm a bit confused.
First off I am an IT guy but not a Linux guy nor someone who has ever rooted or jailbroke anything.
So this is all Greek to me in a way.
I picked up this cheap Walmart special - Nextbook Ares 8 with Lollipop on it so I could learn to root a android device and mess around with it. So far no luck with any of the simple methods. So I suppose it is time to take the more complicated path.
There is alot going on in this thread so I was wondering if someone would be willing to simplify what it took to do this, maybe even create a step by step how to. I would be willing to drop someone a Paypal for this. Almost the same as paying someone to root my device but not quite as I want to be the one to actually do it.

Aren't rooting dangerous for the phone? Not sure though and I'm following this thread. :)
Rooting in itself isn't dangerous - but the user operating with root permissions may be a danger depending on his skill level. ;-)

Root makes it possible for YOU to break a lot of things, so you definitely need to be careful and pay attention (and understand!) what you're doing.

The only reason i root is because of foldermount and a screen recorder :P

Oh, thank you so much for the info. I'll keep that in mind.

i could'nt get it to work with this guys instructions....but it led me to Team Nocturnal...and i got the drivers from there once you get it to boot into fastboot....unplug the usb cord....plug it back in and check device manager to see if there is an issue with the drivers (that was my problem) after you install the right driver...type fastboot devices,,,and it'll show up...then follow the last instructions from XDA ...
you probably allready have the right stuff on your SD card since you're allready tried...so ......................
adb reboot bootloader

while you're in fastboot ...

fastboot flash recovery twrp_recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then
while in bootloader mode, press volume down until recovey mode is diplayed, press power.

In TWRP recovery install remove_encryption.zip, SuperSU246.zip, once completed reboot.

DO NOT FORMAT SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
then smile if it worked :)

it was all about the right drivers for fastboot......

Hey!!! Cool!!
I helped someone...... Lol.... I hope you get out if it what you were hoping for....
I know saying this his will start a flurry of "worked perfect for me!" Comments.... But, I still don't see or feel any improvement... But, I'm also constantly making the mistake if comparing it to my phone....
Good Luck Buddy! :)

At first I did not either. It was after flashing the remove security .zip that speed went up. Still have to factory reset using TWRP before continuing setup of device. If you have read in other threads, like installing TWRP, wiping data, before & after and such, this I always do after the fact, still gets it done and you don't have to add in another variable in case something goes wrong while getting everything done.
Besides this, Xposed for lollipop, SD Maid Pro, BusyBox, man, this tablet already blows away my Asus Memo Pad 8 181c, video wise. Greenify oughta make this 4,000maH battery last....... !!!
Thanks dude,
zach

I'll have to retrace my steps and follow your direction... See if I might have just reloaded an unloaded blank slab.... Probably the case...
