Root Root HTC Evo 4G

Ok! so here is the deal,

I am trying to root my phone using unrevoked but it is saying that my firmware is too new. I am not really a tech-no geek and I have been looking everywhere online to show and guide me how to downgrade, but everything that I look at it is telling me I have to have this on my phone or I have to download this to get that.

I am using Linux operating system and I am getting lost on how to install things using the system. I was wondering if anyone can help me just provide me with links on what I need, and also once I download on Linux how to use it and what to open...step by step. I know someone that can do everything within seconds, but have been busy these days and I want to get it done now.

Please, please, please can someone help me. I greatly appreciate it :)

I have a program on my phone called superuser but it says su binary outdated, and it said update failed and I have a zip file on my SD card called (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip)

I also have ROM manager premium installed too, but it says my phone needs to be rooted before I can use it. So I need help. Thanks

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok first of all my guess is that you have gingerbread on your phone. in order to be positive, we need to know what is your hboot? power off then press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the hboot(bootloader) screen. at the top it will say what version your hboot is.

if it is 2.15 or 2.16 then you need to follow this:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

if it is hboot 2.10 or less then you need to follow this:

also i would not use rom manager. it is way to buggy and it is not worth using. i would do everything manually. make sure that you read and re-read the guide before rooting. and also ask questions if you have them.

Chances are you have to use revolutionary. Look at the gingerbread for dummies guide at the top of this forum. Read it, reread it, and then try it. :D

EDIT: You win this round ocn...:p

Ok I downloaded the link for linux and extracted to my desktop, it is not doing anything??? Is there a certain program I need to open it with, I am following the steps for rooting for dummies guide...lol

That is a known issue Try to copy from the revolutionary web page then paste it into the revolutionary rooting program. Some have had to first paste it into notepad++ then copy from there to revolutionary

oooookkkkkkk I tried all of that and even tired a different beta key, and it is still saying invalid beta key....I might just have to try it on windows...f**k

Some have reported having to do this like 20 times to get it to work. Hopefully someone who is familler with Linux will chime in and help you.

yeah the beta key issue is very frustrating. it took me many tries to get the beta key to work. not sure why but notepad++ worked for me. i feel your frustration. it took me like a few hours for it to finally take. keep trying if you have not already. and like you said you might need to try it on a different computer.
