Root Root HTC incredible 2

jaykappy

Lurker
I am very confused at reading all the postes about rooting the incredible 2. Some say it cant be done some say it can....

I have an increidble 2
Android 2.3.4
HTC Sense 2.1
PRI version 1.92.002

What are my options? Can I root this phone? If you do respond please try and make it as simple as possible...

Thanks

Yes you can. Read the first two stickes in this section.

The first explains how to downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3. You have to do this first. There is no root method right from 2.3.4.

The second one is titled rooting 2.3.3. This one explains how to root the phone.

If I install the older version what am I loosing? Function wise?

Can I still get my contacts from Verizon web site right, if their backed up there?

Do I loose all my installed apps? Is it like fomatting a hard drive?

I heard something about making sure iTunes and others were uninstalled....What are the others? Is there a list to make sure I dont have them?

Do i need to install drivers, other software etc to get it back working again?

THanks for your help

If I do this....Is it as easy then to just (when the new crack is avaliable for 2.3.4) to upgrade and use new crack

None. I found no difference between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. Besides, one benefit to rooting is to load a custom ROMs that will be better than stock.

If you are using Verizon backup assistance you should. I use Google to backup my contacts. Once you load the new ROM the contacts automatically come back from Google.

Only if you load a custom ROM. But, if you have your phone syncing your apps the paid apps should automatically come back. The free apps you will need to re-download. Once rooted you can use Titanium Backup to backup your apps to prevent this.

This I do not know. I despise iTune. I'm not sure what "others" they would be referring to. I didn't have to uninstall anything first.

Do i need to install drivers, other software etc to get it back working again? Not sure what drivers you are referring to.
There are HTC drivers that need to be loaded onto your PC as part of the rooting steps. Rooting just gains you s-off and Superuser access. The phone will still function as usual.

Again, once rooted there will be no need to worry about this. Any updates you would need or want would come from the ROM developers.

well... ive rooted 6 different phones including the Inc2 and i have had iTunes every time... But i havent rooted this phone on gingerbread, i did it on froyo, so im not 100% sure you can keep iTunes on...

I agree...I hate iTunes as well..dont have it...but in the beginning of the youtube video explaining how move back to 2.3.3 it comments on make sure certain software was not on there...maybe refering to the desktop?

So if I do this...adn move back to 2.3.3 my phone will look and feel, and have all the functionality as when I bought it?

The only thing I will loose is the free apps installed?

The phone came with a bunch of apps on there, Navigation, Maps etc....will those install with the 2.3.3 roll back?

Making sure that I at least set up the backup assistant and make sure my contacts are uploaded to Verizon...

Can you think of anything else that might dissapear, or something that I shoul back up first?

Thanks a lot for your time, patience and help

All the rooting process does is bring your phone back to 2.3.3, give you s-off, and superuser access. You will also see a new icon in you app drawer called superuser.

With the phone rooted....I can install WI-FI tether...I can create a hotspot out of the phone...

MY MAIN objective....that make sense? I did this with my HTC Incredible and it works great...

Thoughts

Valorian - Can you post those two link to revert back to 2.3.3. and then the onel to root the phone...

Does what I am doign make sense...besides a couple lost installed apps I shoudl be fine right?

Maybe instead of going through that trouble and super complicated steps...

You could try this if wifi tether is what you are looking for.

It is a free two day trail of the app to see if it works with what you want to do with it, & it states that it does not require root.
In the comments section I thinks it lists Dinc2 as a confirmed device it runs on.
It could be worth a try...
