Root Root if you have 2.2?

I am new to rooting in general, I am personally running Velocity .04 (GREAT WORK!). A buddy of mine wants me to root his phone. Now is it possible to root a 2.2 using Super One Click? As I said I am new to rooting, be kind to me :p If there is another topic on this please point me to that, I looked around (not to hard, like every other lazy person) but just wanted a response. Thank you in advance.

I rooted my ally, which I updated to 2.2.1 through the lg updater, using superoneclick.

Yes, you can do that. I did that too in the beginning and thought, hey this isn't so hard. However, 2.2.1 removes Fastboot which is necessary to have should you ever get a corrupted recovery. Unless you follow Trident's guide, you won't be able to flash future Custom ROMs based on FroYo. That's why, currently, Trident's guide is the ONLY recommended method to root the phone.

Ill have to remember that if I ever decide to install a custom rom(I probably will eventually). For now I'm fine with just beeing rooted. Imainly root to get rid of system apps, use a cache cleaner, and wifi teathering.
