Root {ROOT} Incredible...Please close thread.

Nothing, so far. He claims he's getting his Incredible today.

Also, something else that's important but rarely mentioned: Root just lets us have root access within the stock OS. It doesn't let us flash other firmware yet, unfortunately, because we don't have NAND access. The good news about that is, the NAND issue is shared across several recent phones so there will be many times more people working on it.

Yea, I have read about the NAND before. I would just like to have root because that means that there is progress in the Incredible homebrew community. I figure I will have to rely on them more than HTC themselves to keep myself up to date.

For those not following the comments in the link posted in the first post of this thread, here's the latest Jake comment:

How about doing a Google search for "desire root process" or "htc root process" or "incredible root process" or something similar? I bet you'll come up with similar "steps" to what I'd be telling you. I don't have a secret exploit that no one else knows about. I'm missing the whole "making it work" step like everyone else. Don't blame me that people are trying to read between the lines and imaging things. With that said, I still don't think it should be as hard as everyone is saying, but then I (as mentioned before) haven't tried yet.

a) his kernels are useless without root and NAND access. He can make all the custom kernels he wants, but no one can test them, let alone use them.

b) he got a free Incredible out of this. I can't believe someone sent him an Incredible because he made some kernels that can't be tested.

For some reason, this guy, who has never discovered a rooting method for any phone (he's apparently known for custom kernels), thinks rooting the Incredible "shouldn't be as hard as everyone is saying", even though the people saying that are people who have actually discovered rooting methods for other phones.

What a joke...
 
Wow...this Jake turned out to be a jerk. "Don't blame me that people are trying to read between the lines and imaging things".....right. He could of jumped up and said something the moment people started talking about it, all he did was ask for somone to "donate" an Incedible.

This dude should be banned from every board hes a member of.
 
Just to clarify, he never did say he had root. He said he helped a friend with the process, still kind of messed up the way he worded it, but technically he didn't lie outright. Give him till the weekends over and if we here nothing then the dude that gave him the Inc should call into VZW and nobody will ever take the guy seriously in this community again. Enough with all the hating going on, let's support the devs and give them the respect they deserve.

no, he did out right lie. he said his friend was testing his kernels. without root no kernel to test. lie
 
Well he said that he gave instructions to a friend who (supposedly has root) but will not share photos. He says that his instructions to his friend got him root access. But because he did not have a phone him self, he does not have proof that it works, and his secretive friend who we do not know of, or could be non existent. After he obtained a free phone from a rich user I suppose. He says he wants until the weekend to work on it, personally I would not be surprised if we didn't get another post from him again. He also said he has no idea if the process he told his friend actually got him root access, so in that case I really think he does not know anything. Its too set up like a scam and usually if something sounds too good to be true it usually is. Especially without facts or really instructions given. Like he can't trust another dev with a phone to trust his instruction, yeah I believe that, not!

I rooted the Incredible. And overclocked it to 4.26GHz. I also put a dual core processor in it and upgraded the RAM. I don't have any pictures or videos because I forgot my camera. Oh I don't have an Incredible nor have I ever seen one in person, but this was still easy to do. I will be releasing the ROM within the week.

Oh, and most importantly - If you ask for pictures, video, or proof you are an asshole.

The problem is they have to deal with HTC's software(bootloader) and not just Android. HTC puts extra security on these Sense phones trying to protect intellectual property. I still can't believe the Evo was rooted but it does help to put it in the hands of 5000 serious Android fans.
 
I think the link to that lying pricks site should be removed from the first post ... you helped give him his 15 minutes he shouldnt keep profitting from it.

Jeez whats with all the hostility? It was probably some gossip. No need to lynch the guy. Maybe his friend does have root? We don't need people like you here! Were all trying to help each other and your adding nothing!
