Root {ROOT} Incredible...Please close thread.

There seems to be some questioning the image that has been thrown all over the place. If you look, the location icon is gone. How would that happen? As far as I know, that cannot be turned off completely, the icon is always there. Anyone else?

I agree with you, that location icon cannot be removed (its used for emergency dialing)

I am not holding my breath at all. It took a week between him "Showing his friend how to root" and then posting these pics /vid, which easily could be faked. So until I have my Incredible, in my hand, rooted, I'm not buying into it.

Have my doubts.

1) photo link on Jake's site was NOT posted by him.

2) Jake said NOTHING about gaining root on his site

3) post on XDA was by a new member named "Jake Day" with only 1 post made today

My opinion? We are being duped by someone who took picture of a Driod Eris screen and photoshopped it onto an Incredible.

I can easily answer 1. 2. 3.
I speak to Jake directly over Google talk, and he has confirmed that he does have root and thats his pic.
I dont have the method yet so I cant confirm it works as of now...I will let ya know when I do :)

Thanks acidbath, I updated over @ PPCGeeks as well.

Either way this goes, there is nothing lost in seeing how things pan out!!!!

Thanks for all the work guys...here's hoping!!! :D

I started getting just a tad bit worried when reading a few posts over at XDA, doubting Jake, yet again. Checked the post count of 'Jake Day', and saw the lack of GPS icon. Your post cleared any doubt I had. This confirmation could be useful in your OP.

thanks

Ask him where the location icon is or how he removed it. Ask him why he didn't update his site but instead posted on XDA forums first. He's been updating his site and posting in comments all through this. When he finally gets root and takes a pic, he takes the time to register and post on XDA before his own site?

Seems weird. Especially considering he posted in the comments of his site he had a falling out on XDA and hadn't posted on XDA before this.

Picture was posted on alldroid first, a community Jake is associated with. Acidbath has been talking to him on Google talk since the early comments and confirms that Jake posted the pic.

The only thing we can do now is wait for the instructions and see if they work.

How about we don't ask him anything and let them work in peace. As long as he has everyone looking over his shoulder expecting answers to all their questions, nothings going to get finished.
The man doesn't have to answer any questions, because he doesn't owe anyone shit, and if it turns out that that the root is real, then all drama he had to go through was out of line.

I am probably going to get flamed for this post. I want to be as optimistic as the next guy. If I am wrong and tonight he posts his methods I'll be happy to donate $25 to his cause and eat crow.

But something is odd about that picture he posted. I brought it in to photoshop and enlarged an area of the screen. You can quite clearly see the artifacts of a blur or smudge tool. When you adjust the contrast and brightness it is even more apparent. There is no way in the same continuous black space you should have pixelation and blur from the same single source. You can see how between "Better Terminal Emulator" and the description below the black space is pixelated across it all. But between "Root Explorer" and BTE or BTE and ShootMe there are blurry and pixelated artifacts present in the same black space. Seems odd...

Hope I'm wrong.

i agree ruggar, i think the whole picture seems a bit blurry, but the result of the blur could be the lack of flash on the camera the picture was taken with, also the mega pixel of the camera could be low quality. Also if you look you can see a dim shadow on the incredible screen where someone is holding a camera above it. I think the root is real.

How do we know YOU didn't smudge it?? Hmmm?? HMMMMM!?!?! Yea.

Just wanted to get on the conspiracy train.

If that were true I don't understand why it would affect only the black areas between programs being listed. None of the icons or text has any blurry artifacts applied to it. The blur is also very distinct. If you look at the adjusted brightness/contrast pic there is a clear start and end row like someone used a rectangle select tool or patch tool. Getting the same pixel row across the screen like that would be... very lucky to happen naturally. I'm a skeptic. I want Froyo on my phone as much as anyone. I just get a weird feeling from how this has all unfolded and this photo did nothing to subside it.

Very true, i think its iffy. I hope the root is real, i guess all we can do now is wait and see.
