IRC channel?? yes? no?

Yes we do have a IRC channel for incredible users
Server: irc.andirc.net
Channel: #Incredible enjoy :)

Edit: Also didn't catch that other post about your channel on freenode. But if you'd also like to join us on our network feel free. The andirc.net is for android specifically

Why is there another IRC Channel. Seems like a waste of time, wouldn't you want more people talking to everyone sharing their ideas? I vote for a move for everyone on that channel to come to the ##incredibleroot channel on irc freenode. They have smart people in there and there is simply no need for two different channels on two different servers. If you want to get things done people have to come together on this one. Otherwise it may never get done. And dont tell me its more about the android lol, they have a general channel on freenode to also called ##droidincredible. As this is the forum about incredible. I suggest that everyone come to here.

I tried to join #droidincredible on freenode but it tells me that I need an invite.

Yes sort of. Doesn't matter all that much. I have been streaming for years without being charged. I just stay away from the torrents, and don't use it all that much. I basically use it for weekends away, airports and hotels that dont have free wifi.
I've been using my phones w/ Verizon for years as a modem or hot spot. I now have the Inc, and can't wait 4 it 2 b rooted. I love the hot spot aspect. I've used WMWiFiRouter on my older phones, and Verizon has never given me any problems w/ my usage, even though I stream music and video via SlingBox constantly, all day, every day.

Has anyone else actually had problems from Verizon on usage?

Do you have any idea of the usual data usage you have a month?

I have a question. Once root has been achieved will it be hard to perform on are phones. I'm not super smart when it comes to coding and things but I watched a video on YouTube for the Droid and it didn't look that hard. Just asking.

What is the general approach and/or difficulty 'rooting'?
Is it really just that you don't know the root password? Is it just like a regular Linux system? Can it be rebooted into maintenance mode (single user)? Can the file system be mounted and edited without booting the full os?
Does root has a passwd or is it setup so that you can't login into root through a terminal window even if you had the password?

Is there any starting point explaining about the rooting process for those knowledgeable about UNIX?

Nobody knows the process to achieve root access right now so the steps to get there are yet to be determined.

From rooting the eris, you don't need a root password. You are automatically logged in as a superuser when you boot your phone. So you'll never set a password or need a password anwhere in the process.

Its more like unlocking the phone, the steps you take when it does come out will prepare the phone to be rooted and install the tools needed so you can backup the rom and reflash new roms(images) to obtain new functions. Its not as simple as entering in the correct password to unlock root mode, its much more complicated.

I'm sure some youtube videos will surface when root is obtained, but it looks like it may be awhile before much progress is made, of course this could change at anytime but it seems htc really did lock this phone down better than any previous model.

The only thing we can do right now is either provide assistance or wait. It'll come soon enough and they are working on it as hard as they can.

Could you link me to where they are working on it? I myself can't contribute much to the rooting, but I would really like to see their process and how its done.

Just to appease the masses, lots of very experienced Devs and Android Members are working on root.
So some patience is required and I am sure we will get there!

Cheers!

Thanks for the update! I wish I could offer my assistance but I am not well versed in rooting or cooking roms. Keep up the great work. :D

There is already 3 channels on irc that has way more people than that channel. And when i try to connect to regular irc.andirc.net it didnt even work. I got blocked and had to find a beefcake that was linked with andrid. Nobody was there. Dont waste time, use the freenode server at #droidincredible, and #incredibleroot.

This place is by far tons better than what i could tell, there was only one person in the other channel on the other server. Maybe i got the wrong server, but I know i found that server by googling and it said andirc.net on it. lol.

Another thing, why should we have to go to another thread to help out. They should come here lol! Your posting in this thread, remember!

That is meant for developers only, as most Devs, like myself come from over on XDA.

Cheers!

I deleted it not him, and now your getting a free trip to Banlandia.

Thanks for the moderation, I shouldn't of replied at all, so excuse my momentary lack of maturity.

If anyone has an IRC channel or channels they are using for Incredible Root please PM me and I will be sure to post it for other member to view or join.

Cheers!

No problem. Years of WinMo and XDA will do that to you.
