Root Root is out!!!!!

Most excellent. Such a shame I leave for vacation this Saturday, for a week. I'll root when I return.

I'll probably wait until the wireless tethering gets worked out before I root.

When you root, do you lose your apps? I'm coming from a jailbroken iPhone. Everytime I updated the OS I would lose all of my Cydia (jailbroken) apps. It's really annoying.

Also in that same pic is one of those white bunnies with a moustache and butthole. And a roll of TP. This guy knows how to par-tay!

HAHA, I was thinking the same thing. That 8th picture needs a much better caption! Curious to hear your first impressions of Froyo... I am hot on your heels.

Perhaps someone who is root-savvy here can post a detailed step by step instructional video on how to root the Evo on youtube for us noobs.

Coming from a WinMo user, a youtube video is how I unlocked/jailbroke my GF's iPhone after never even holding one prior to that.

Thanks again everyone for your hard work ! :D

Under the image where he puts "No Superuser app?! Did I do something wrong." confuses me cause the steps he does after that I am clueless to.

heres my question did u remove the crappy apps u didntt need or want an how.

At this point you can only remove apps through Adb. Once they have unlocked the process for doing it through android then you would be able to use root explorer to do it from your phone, but not yet.

Apparently they don't have wireless tethering working yet. That's my main reason to root, so I'll wait until they have that sorted out.

Alright, so another thing I found with the Froyo custom ROM is that the Roaming Indicator (little triangle, top right) is always on. Don't know if this is a problem.

Also, Chrome to Phone works.

Flash 10.1 beta works! Played that stupid Alien Attack game on Miniclip that they always use to demo flash with no problems.

please try out the wifi tether app and neocore test and let us know. :) im dying to find out!

wifi tether doesn't work. Neocore scores 25.6 fps. Stock rom scores 24 fps. Don't know if that's statistically significant.

cameras still not working?

Nope, every app that needs the camera hangs and Force Closes.

Pink Eye Relief medicine in the background... *teehee* :p

lmao, I just came back from college, so this room isn't really mine... I'm not sure whose medicine that is.

LOL the labbit is a gift from the gf ;)

wow! this looks very complicated. someone come over to my house and do it. i'll give you a soda.

Follow the directions closely and you won't have a problem!

yes all apps lost since you have to wipe.

It works great! I can't say that it feels 2-5x faster... but at least not slower than before hahaha. A lot of things don't work though. Anything relating to a sensor (accelerometer, light sensor for auto brightness, camera) is broken. But it's usable as an everyday ROM if you don't need the camera.

If I can remove Sense UI with root, then its a must. Sense needs to be optional.

Flash a ROM that doesn't include Sense UI. Like the Froyo ROM.

I was just surprised that a rooted ROM didn't include the SuperUser app. But it turns out you don't need it since it just gives root permissions to whatever requests it.

heres my question did u remove the crappy apps u didntt need or want an how.

No, I just flashed to the Froyo ROM which doesn't include those apps.

So, whats the purpose of rooting the phone?
If I do so, would I loose the stock HTC and sprint ROM [whatever u call it], and everything that came on the phone.?

thanks

Rooting the phone means (theoretically) that you can overclock with custom kernels, use wireless tether for free, install custom ROMs.

Just by rooting, you will not lose anything. Only if you decide to flash another ROM will you be starting over from scratch.

Edit: If you follow Toast's instructions, you WILL start from scratch once you root your phone. Sorry for the misinformation.

Is there a method you know of to include this after you root? I'd like to delegate SU permissions a little more carefully. Not a fan of the "shotgun approach".
