Root [Root] LG Leon MetroPCS

People were having trouble with kingoroot and their devices getting damaged so I figured I would post this as a request from @Unforgiven

Requirements:

  • Device must be on either 10b or 10d firmware
  • A computer :p

All instruction for rooting this device are in THIS post.

Basically just plug your device in and run the program, simple enough, right? :p I will add more details when/if time allows. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will try to answer them

I would actually recommend doing it the manual way (send_command exploit) because it gives you access to system in case of brick you can back up everything and restore with dd.

Could someone link to a simple send_command guide?

Is the root stable as long as we don't uninstall any system apps?

Great. Now if there was only a decent twrp backup guide without searching 10000 posts. I know Linux well enough to use DD.

Its also not too stable on .b, but I was using their optional app hibernation tool too, i believe it's called kingmaster. It caused a bunch of system apps to crash but was still responsive enough to reboot. Also it might have been caused by the phone being low on space <<<< but this has never caused a crash just FCS on apps and slowness.

People are saying that the lg one click root script is better.

Firstly, hello everyone. Just wanted to add my rooting experience with the LG Leon LTE with metroPCS.

Secondly, I am now rooted, have TWRP installed and wanted to thank any and all who put in effort to make this easy.

My methods:
1) rooted with Kingroot 4.0
2) removed kingroot, kinguser, and others with Supersu-me
3) used TWRP manager to install recovery (since gotten rid of this after using vol-, pwr keys to confirm working recovery)
4) patiently await a CM12 build

My leon is rooted and supersu is updated.

Now I can't download anything from the play store. When I install or update any app, after I click Ok after reading the permissions, the progress bar just sits at 0%. I am running ms34510b.

Also here's the update.zip for metropcs ota update that my phone was sent this week, it's 5.1.1, build LMY47V. Has anyone found a way to permanently disable updates or update notifications without freezing the update center?

USING SENDCOMMAND ON 10E CAN SOFT-BRICK, BUT ALL MAY NOT BE LOST. I managed to get root working on my MetroPCS LG Leon with firmware 10e (Lollipop v5.1.1).

Unlike my experience rooting with 10b, running the lg_root.sh on 10e only created directories and symlinks; no files from the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip copied over. So I extracted the armv7 and common folders from the zip and put in /data/local/tmp/ via adb, then from Firmware Download mode I used the SendCommand terminal to manually remount the system read/write and copy the su files to their respective system paths.

A few tips... For me, even though the booting device appeared hung or stuck in bootloop after running lg_root.sh, I was able to still access it from adb and transfer files (JUST DON'T FACTORY DATA RESET)... then I just pulled the battery, and it was back to Firmware Download mode for trial and error in the SendCommand terminal. Manually typing the commands to remount worked, and I was able to copy over all the su files to finish the steps and get root on it. I just had to ensure I also set the permissions on them afterwards

I can expand if anyone is interested. There is definitely the potential to hose things up. Normal warnings follow (e.g., I'm not responsible for your brick). Only experienced users should try.

Ya my LG F60 I rooted with kingroot app and about a week later the screen stated blinking and out she went and no custom recovery and I don't have a pc so paperweight till I can install the drivers and whatknot. I'm not liking Kingroot and I deffinetly don't like they're root right granting ability/non ability. Slot of apps cent be root granted due to it saying no SU recognized.
