Root Root me!!!!

mpugh

Lurker
Is there any way or service available that exists for dummies like me to get their moto droid 1's rooted by folks who know what the hell they're doing? I just cannot do it for some reason. I know you'll say it's not that hard and stuff like that. I'm not totally inept, it's just that I don't trust myself to do it correctly. Maybe I need other professional as well. Thanks for being there!

search on craiglist. i see adds that claim to root/rom your device frequently.

however, unless youre just going to have someone root your phone and install a rom for you,and be happy with that forever,or use a stock rom with root only apps, then you need to do alot of research on how to download roms, how to boot into recovery, etc,as you can really goof things up by not knowing what youre doing, and i can almost gaurantee if you pay someone to root your phone and then install rom mamager and try and use it to download and flash roms, you WILL end up with a prollem you cant solve and well end up trying to help and guide you thru a rescue procedure on the furum.

getting your phone rooted is only the first step. if you can use a computer you can use the "super one click app" as described here: How To: Root Your Android Phone (SuperOneClick Method) | TheUnlockr

thats the method i used. it was straightforward and pretty easy. rooting and roming is alot of fun! just please make sure you do your research and ask your questions before you have prollems :)

my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info. Will give it a shot (the SuperOneClick deal) when my nerve can be worked up and let you know how it went. I have to agree with you on your advice about doing my research and understanding the process first. Thanks again.

Keep in mind, mpugh, that rooting won't change a thing on your phone. All it does is unlock the system files. As long as you don't go into the system files, nothing changes with your Droid.

I guess you want to ask yourself what it is you want your Droid to do that it can't do unrooted... and if the pros outweigh the risks, then root. The most important reason I rooted was to install a custom recovery that made backups. I find that the ability to make backups far outweighs any potential risk that rooting might have.

It's also important to have a good backup BEFORE you mess with the system files (i.e. removing bloatware or apps you don't want)... far too many people on here have rooted and started wiping out system files with no backup, and you can be assured that they ALL wish they had taken their time to learn what's what and have known good backups on hand.

Rooting in and of itself is not a big deal... it's what you DO with all that new power that matters. My 0.02 :)

"that rooting won't change a thing on your phone"

True but it allows root apps like Barnicle wifi tether.
