Root Root noob help!!

Im new to the whole rooting process. i rooted my evo last weekend and now while rooted i get an OTA for update 4.53. Should i unroot and then update then reroot? i read that i shouldnt update while rooted as this will cause possible damage or a bricked phone. Is ther maybe a kernal or rom i can use to download it? I dont even know if kernal or rom are the right things to use. sorry im new at this and need some help. If this question as already been answered then just post the link. thanks! =)

NO

check out the kernel and roms section there are plenty of updated roms.

NEVER EVER ACCEPT AN OTA ON A ROOTED DEVICE

also go into the settings and uncheck the automatically check for updates to insure you don't get one.

Once theres an OTA, a developer usually makes a stock ROM with that update already baked into it. Therefore, rather than unroot and accept the OTA, all you have to do is flash the updated stock ROM.

If your using a custom ROM, just wait until the developer who made that ROM to include the update into his custom ROM.

It is NEVER worth it to unroot, get an update, then re-root

Gingerbread Official OTA 4.53.651.1

[ROM][STOCK][Rooted] 4.53.651.1 - Odexed & De-Odexe

As far as odexed or do-odexed, either will work. One is for customizing and the other isnt, but I'm not 100% sure which is which because I dont use the stock ROMS.

Someone else can clarify that.

Odexed = no customizing
de -odexed = customizing :)

Like you I also don't use stock roms :D I'm and AOSP kind of guy :cool:

here you go. :p
