Root Root noob needs guidance

I'm going to take a page from lordskonk's playbook and list as much info on my phone as possible, in order to get the best guidance I can. Though, I fear there may be little I can do with my particular brand of Desire. I've had my Desire since June from Cox Wireless, and by now have grown extremely tired of fighting with "Low Storage Space" notifications, especially when all I seem to do with my phone is delete stuff. It seems rooting to delete bloatware is a minimum, though I'm open to looking at other ROMs as well. I'll leave that topic for later. For now, I need to know what I need to do to root, if it's even a possibility with my phone's configuration. Looks like my hboot version will require me to use Revolutionary. So, with this information, where do I start?

you can use revolutionary to s-off then go to the wiki and download the super user zip to flash which will give you root.

roms are a different matter as you will have to search for CDMA roms, if you try to flash a rom that is not CDMA you will encounter problems and most roms you will see on XDA are gsm

I too am new to rooting. I have a Desire on Cox, so I have the same problem with memory. I have installed custom firmware on a Blackberry before, so I'm not too worried about rooting. My only concern is that I haven't found a stock ROM for the Cox Desire, so I'm a little hesitant in case something goes wrong. Does anyone have any recommendations for an RUU file or something else I can use to go back to stock?
