Root Root noob.

Hi everyone, I'm quite new to the android phones and am the proud owner of a Fascinate. Recently I grew tired of having to wait for 2.2 and decided to root my phone. Luckily the internet is a great group of people who helpfully had a one click rooting method easily set up. Once rooted I installed superuser and got rid of all the dumb shit that came on it including bing, I was curious if theres a way to download those again? And also wanted to know if 2.2 would still be downloadable even if rooted? Thanks a ton.
P.S If its not too much trouble, could someone explain, odin, kernels and how to install roms and new themes? And voodo? So much for me to learn...

Welcome new SF friend :)
The most complete read is this http://androidforums.com/fascinate-...4-december-2010-12-58pm-central-u-s-time.html take a few minutes to read each thread and 90% of your questions should be answered.
In short however, root does not per se block the OTA 2.2, but the missing bloatware you got rid of will. Never fear as part of the root crew now you can just use the 2.2 which the dev's have already and soon we should have a near complete 2.2

Its a lot to take in all at once....follow saps advice and peruse the root sticky and various threads in here...also id recommend reading up on the android sdk and adb (adrynalynes adb workshop is in the root sticky)

Im kind of stuck on the school of thought that if you root you should have some working knowledge of that (Although i realize many don't)

And welcome. :)

Thanks a lot guys especially for that thread. One quick question, if in the future I decide rooting was not for me, is it possible to unroot and then install the bloatware again?

Yes there is a way to go back to stock. In the How to Root sticky there is a link talking about this... It should take you back to factory. Have fun..

your best bet if you are unsure about sticking with root is either: install clockwork recovery and make a backup of your system before you start touching bloatware...so you can restore that before unrooting and you ll be all set....

or purchase titanium backup from the market and "freeze" the bloatware so its not actually gone, but not running. then when you want it back you can unfreeze it
