Root [Root] One Click Root for Samsung Admire (SCH-R720) :: Windows/Mac/Linux :: 9/12/2011

samsung admire sch r720 I have read all the threads and have done everything according to instructions. Besides superuser which does not have a current bu update that works for my phone apparently, is their another app that will root my phone properly.
Did you get it done jheff:confused:

Okay... so been reading and attempting to root MetroPCS Samsung Admire for a a couple of days. So far no luck. I am using Win7. Below are the steps I have taken:
1. Downloaded One CLick from OP.
2. Fixed defice ---> device
3. I have used Superuser from both GP and from OP
4. When I try to update binary
Checking current install path... Fail!
Failed to find currently installed su binary.
Update cannot continue
5. Installed Busybox and TB (won't work since phone is not rooted)
6. Did a factory reset to remove everything
7. What the Run.Bat results are:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
"[*] Triggering core dump..."
[1] Segmentation fault app_process /dev...
"[*] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic."
remount succeeded
failed to copy 'su' to '/system/xbin/su': No space left on device
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
link failed File exists
"[*] Installing Superuser.apk. If this hangs, just cancel it with Ctrl+C after a
few seconds."
"[*] and you'll be finished rooting your phone. Reboot and enjoy."
1102 KB/s (196521 bytes in 0.174s)
Error: Could not access the Package Manager. Is the system running?
[*] Persistence complete, enjoy your rooted phone!"
Press any key to exit the script.
Press any key to continue . . .

Any help is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Install Superuser off the market.

Congrats on your new rooted phone.

Enjoy your semi-voided warranty. :D

This may sound stupid but do you have to be rooted to flash a rom. Ive downloaded like 3 roms but I cant flash them. Is this because I'm not rooted?

Open terminal and type cd(press spacebar) ...dont press anything else go to next step

now go back to Finder and go to the folder where you extracted those files
ex. ~/Downloads/Admire

grab the "Admire" folder and drag it to your terminal. then press Enter.

once you are in ~/Downloads/Admire or whatever directory you placed it then type:

./admire_root.sh (or whatever the sh file is called)

SO it says *daemon started succesfully*
What now??? how long does it take???
What do I do next? aim messing my phone???

having problems: error...device not found...please help
All,

The quote I grabbed here is what most are experiencing. The code found for this download regardless of where you get it has a bug; so you have to open the "run.bat" file and edit it first. That is because device is mis spelled as defice, in the code! Correct this and save, on your computer side before exporting to you phone. I already had the code on my phone so had to use the "SAFE MODE" to finish this.

There is a recovery at reboot, using the three buttons of “Volume Down” + “Return” + “Power Off”. I had to boot to this, correct the run.bat script and then execute the run.bat from this safe mode to finish the install process and recover.

All the posts at:

http://theunlockr.com/2012/03/01/how-to-root-the-metropcs-samsung-admire-sch-r720

are basically useless as the entries are not "creator monitored" so only yours truly has put in anything to correct any of the problems encountered.

Now I need help to know how to check to make sure the phone is “rooted”. I also can not find any way to see or remove the Metro Bloatware and now getting "No Space" errors so need the crap off the phone ASAP!

Thanks!
OMR

All,

With over 11 pages of interaction on this string, someone needs to grab it all and put into a blog in summarized format, so we can see all the step-by-step entries, as one, the Qs summarized, with their answers.

Sure that would all reduce to less that 4 pages of reading. It's seriously TMI and I can't find what I need to fix my phone through this thread anymore.

Thanks!

Welcome to Android Forums Kimmm:)
It appears your computer is not seeing your device. Which method did you try from a few posts up ^^^^
Also be sure to use the USB cord that came with the Admire-although supposedly universal-my LG cord would not work with my Admire:(

So let answer your Qs:

Two Sigs, On this board I'm TBotNik, my secondary handle, all other boards primary handle is OldManRiver, including the Unlocker forum, associated with this fix.

Do not just give a link to the DRIVERS for as I posted before they are corrupt with misspelling of device as defice, so can not be run straight as they always crap a phone. ACTUALLY and LITERALLY and real thing and you will panic if this happens to you. Run.bat must be edited first to correct this error.

Next differentiate between the WinDUHS and the Linux user experience. Not everyone out here runs any MicroSUCK stuff. Real computer users do not want to be thrown back 20 years into the stone ages of computing. All my machines run Ubuntu Linux.

Main difference is that in Linux, you have to, on the phone side, go into "Notification", select "USB Connected", then click "Turn on USB Storage", which allows you to see and use the SD card as local memory. There you download the code, into the "downloads" folder, then either reboot the phone in "SAFE MODE" with the the three buttons of “Volume Down” + “Return” + “Power Off” and then execute the run.bat file from the directory in the phone, or put a "My Files" folder on your phone that has all directories in it. I do the latter and ran the run.bat from there. Of course in the later, you have to again go to notification on the phone and click "Turn off USB storage" so the phone can again read the SD card.

Sorry Linux users, though Droid is Linux, Samsung did not set up any drivers to let you actually interact with the phone, only with the SD Card.

You say REBOOT and rooted, but there is nothing that shows this on the phone and the advertisement that I can immediately go and toss the Metro BLOATWARE, is false because nothing I have tried, even in SU mode shows me anything or place where I can toss it. That is the entire reason for the SU mode is to throw out crap that doesn't work and the BLOATWARE that is sucking CPU cycles and memory.

Also the link you give to the SuperUser.apk from the Adroid store is no longer a good app or link. The switch Google made to "Google Play" means you will always time out trying to connect from your phone and can never get the app (violates the April 2011 Secure Mode directive so is pure crap) and will not and can not be made to work from your phone, as your phone is Secure Mode compliant. If you try to download via web, you no longer get the "download the file" option, so without the .apk file nothing.

Now show me something I don't know that works!

Thanks!

Hey All,

I found and downloaded the app "System Tuner", which has a RED "System" button that when clicked displays all the apps and with the SU installed, let's you wipe out the "BLOATWARE".

Got the Metro "Easy Wifi" app knocked out and now I connect first time and everytime to the WiFi connections with "WiFi-Finder". Much much improved.

Also deleting all the Google crap my battery now easily runs 8-12 hours, when 2 hours was max it would run before.

Cheers!

I'm guessing you did not read and therefore did not edit the "run.bat" file, as instructed. Yes this is what you get without correcting the error in the file.

Hello this is my first time root ever I followed all the correct steps even doing my own install of Super User Everything was until I tried to Back up current ROM that's when my Admire powered off and has yet to power on. I read more post to find out that I had to install Titanium Back-p I thought g-back up was sufficient. Can any one help this poor green block head out I'd Appreciate it.

Back up current ROM
