Ok, exactly how difficult is rooting? I'm seriously interested now, where do I find the instructions? I'm reading this from my phone so hopefully its easy reading.

I found a root tutorial on this forum, in the all things root subforum. But it was very convoluted so I looked else where and found another android forum with a much easier to follow tutorial. All of the files were linked or included in the post itself.Ok, exactly how difficult is rooting? I'm seriously interested now, where do I find the instructions? probably easier to use:Ok, exactly how difficult is rooting? I'm seriously interested now, where do I find the instructions? I'm reading this from my phone so hopefully its easy reading.
Correct, I moved 15-25megs of apps off my internal memory after rooting. I have the same or less internal as I did before moving the apps (I force closed, cleared cache and cleared data on everything before moving).Rooting doesn't free up internal memory, it allows you to do things like use apps2sd or link2sd etc. These methods allow you to load your apps to your sd card, which frees up your internal memory.

[How-To] Root the LG Optimus V - Android Forums
Once I downloaded all the files and installed them, it took me only about 20 minutes to root. I spent the next two days fiddling with my phone getting it back to the state it was before I rooted (sounds and widgets).
Since I've rooted I don't have the magical gobs of free internal ram that I expected I'd have. In fact I have roughly the same.
Evo 4G? Don't really know if you'll see the same results as an Optimus V, there's a tremendous difference in hardware. In theory, yours should take less time (faster processor) but I can't say for certain. Either way, regardless of what method you chose, you can safely ball-park about an hour or less. That's providing you're properly prepared, and understand what you are doing.Your reply stunned me - only 20 minutes? I have been debating whether or not to root my Evo 4G and that was one question I had that made me hold off - I did not want to not have my phone available for 2 days or so. Wanted to make sure I had enough time to do it start to finish. Thanks!
