Root without PC / Mobile Odin (and link to official 4.1.2 update from spain)

Apparent'y somebody made it where you can root the lively little phone without a PC, and install CWM over on xda

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719

Simple way to root and unroot stock kernel without flashing insecure kernel.
Don't worry about custom counter and yellow triangle, with this method they never appear, because we only rooting, it's a rooting script not a custom kernel.
This rooting script included Busybox installer.

Rooting
Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
- CWM via stock recovery or download zip from ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries
- SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage.
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted

Tested on latest stock Galaxy S II ICS rom.
Tested on latest Galaxy Note by some user (thanks for report)
Note: This method should work for other device with ICS rom, check CWM that compatible for your device here ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries

now, combine that with mobile Odin, and then you could just walk into Best Buy, but the phone, slap a MicroSD with the files on it then slam whatever rom on it before getting home

or with the recent release of the official JB ROM (from Spain)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487"

and the CSC changer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tYW5uaWFray5jc2NzZWxlY3RvciJd

have the latest official release even if you are traveling before having to wait for them to push the OTA update.

just thought these tidbits might be extremely helpful

Please note that the ROM listed is NOT for our phone. It is for the GT-I9100.
Our phone is the SPH-D710

ah, i didn't see which subforum that was on, i wen't to it from news about the JB finally getting put out for the Galaxy S2 in which Spain was the first place to get it

On XDA you want the forums for the Epic 4G Touch. That is the same phone as ours. Both are SPH-D710. Samsung and Sprint relabeled it.

i guess the real question would be then, is anybody brave enough to try this to see if it works

the method, not the exact files that is

If you are still running FI22 you could just root with the Exynos abuse app. It can root your phone, install superuser, and even allow you to patch the security hole if you want.

hell, i'm gettin my phone as soon as they finally send refund checks, been researching and looking for the best ways to install JB and root it......damn lazy ass IRS and tax season delay

so it will most likely still be running the old stuff

A lot of people are reporting issues with this root method in the thread. Id suggest odin or the exploit method

As far as I know I'm not sure how this work, but new leaks and ota updates fixed the exploit. What I'm trying to say is if you're patched I don't know if switching to an older rom will allow you to use the exploit. Samsung had announced that the exploit has been fixed.

Yes, the exploit has been patched on the newer ROMs. Samsung patched it. The patch is part of the ROM. So, if you are on an older ROM you would still have and be able to use the exploit.
