Root root your mytouch 3g!!!

ok .. tried to root today again and just found out why so many people are pissed or having issues.

Before i start ranting and raving here is what i got so things are clear from the get go.

1: i have a mytouch 3g (not v1.2)
2: my phone is only a few weeks old got it with 1.6 (Donut)

I feel if you have had to update your phone to a 1.6 then the one click method is perfect for you. (started with version 1.5 then updated to 1.6)

If you got your phone with the 1.6 already installed (like me now) you have to do the gold card method.

There is no work around or easy step. I have been following the steps provided by the unlockr.com site and they make it sound simple. Really it is if your patient. Also all the links that they provide along with xda are all rapidshare downloads and or out of date. Well for some reason they are always packed and full so you cant download. Hopefully some one out there has them in a better place.

Until we are able to get the 2 files needed (SappIMG.zip and 1.33.2005 HBoot) im at basic 1.6 instead of the Super D im looking for.

So after 2 hours maybe 3 i dont remember we accomplished NOTHING in regards to an actual root.

Bummed out.

Does anyone have these files they would like to share?

Ok...I have the MT3G and I did NOT do the goldcard method to unroot...I didn't have any problems and I thought theunlockr.com method was great and very helpful.

I followed the 1 click method on theunlckr.com...reverted to cupcake (1.5) and then followed the flashing of the recovery image. I did not flash a new radio (I am using 1.33.0006) because I am scared to brick my phone. I have run the SuperD ROM on this radio with no issues...(I don't care for it though, I am running OpenEclair v1.2.2 DietEclair).

In the page you provided the like is there for the SappIMG.nph file you need. I think you are just a bit confused because you are following the goldcard method. If you follow the 1 click method you do not need the file to be zipped. Here is the link for it anyway: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service.

As for the radio, if you want to flash it here is a link for it: Magic SPL HBOOT collection - xda-developers

I highly recommend Amon RA's new recovery image...it can be found here: [Recovery] [32A & 32B] [13-Dec-2009] RA-sapphire-v1.5.2 - xda-developers

Good luck...if you can't find file or a link PM me and I can probably email you the file you're looking for! :)

Ok, so you are still in stock 1.6 that came with the phone?

Here's what you need to do, let me ask that you turn off your phone and reboot while holding the down volume button and power and re-post everything it says, I will help you from there.

Just so you know you do not need to change your SPL to 1.33.0005 because your SPL should be 1.33.0006 and because you have a Mytouch you have enough internal memory for custom roms that require it, the G1 requires the Death SPL (1.33.0005) because it has half as much internal memory. So far there isn't a rom that I have come across where the Mytouch needs the Death SPL. So don't worry there. And really I would give up on the unlocker style and go to Cyanogen Wiki Follow this completely and you will have no problems, and you'll be rooted. But then after you are done give Cyanogen's rom a try, and then go for SuperD. Good luck!

Did that and got no where. Also did the one i have posted before. Nothing. I get this:

If you get an error saying "Main version is older" or "Incorrect Model ID" you'll need to create a goldcard

Said i needed to do the gold card thing.

And thank you for the files. :P

It seems looking at your build that you have a different radio & SPL than I had when I started...so I'm sure that's why. Sorry I can't help more. :)

PROBLEM. LOL.. starting to hate this darn fone now. ARG...

I see this:

Main version is older!

then something about reboot or stay. Cyanogen says i need the gold card and thats where i have been.

I need to do the gold card process to root correct?

Ok, sorry about all of the problems, here is another method and idea for you, please try it and report back -

Follow this video

And these directions

I haven't tried them, because I'm already rooted, but I believe they'll work, there is no fastboot or mention of reverting to 1.5, no goldcard, no yada yada, so just do what it says, and the only difference I would say is to download this AmonRa recovery image Hit download now to get the file. Then in the flashrec, write the exact file name of the AmonRa file you put onto your SD card.
Do instead of what he says in the video. Then continue from there, and tell us how it goes.

Hope it helps, sorry this has been so confusing.

I believe I tried that one already and it says fail everytime. Ill try again tonight maybe just maybe it may work ill hold my breath. If I don't respond ill be dead from lack of air. :)

*prepares to resuscitate dasudevil, New York style*

As long as its NY style we should be good :P

Is that file not on your SD? Honestly, here is what I would do is take off the back of your phone keeping it face down so that the battery stays in contact with phone and doesn't allow it turn off. Then I would pop out the SD card put it into your computer and load the .img onto it and then pop it back into your phone and then type in the file name.

ok update very scared! PLease someone help... Did the gold card.

I am here on these steps

17. You should see a serial number pop up and the word fastboot to the right of it. This means that your USB drviers are all set up correctly and you can continue. If you do NOT see this, then you need to start over or Google for how to set up the USB drivers correctly (this will help).

18. If it worked, type the following into the command prompt (with hitting enter at the end of the line):
fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img
19. Once the phone boots into the recovery mode, then click on Apply Update.zip (if you get Can

Noob here, went to theunlockr.com and tried to download the two files but i couldnt get them to work. Can someone give me the direct links to download the correct files to root my MT3G

Thanks!

Where exactly are you in the process? Have you completed these steps and it isn't working? I see two problem, you need the AmonRas 32B image, and you need to have recovery-RAv1.2.0G.img That is if you bought your phone in the US from Tmobile and it has the Google brand on the back. However, all Mytouchs are 32B except for the new ones with the headphone jack which you don't have, so you're 32B. Get those files.

Working with jfritzs2 via texting. Will update what happened and what went wrong once we figure it out. Sorry for having to edit the last few posts. They were long

You're really starting to make me nervous, dude. lol

YEA i had to do the gold card setup. That alone should make anyone nervous. Right now i am freaking....

Here is the scoop on what i got.

A rooted phone YEA
No Internet
No 3g
No Texting (ok i do its just very very buggy)
No Market

Firmware 1.5

I can however talk. Did get some cool rings and notifications. However I want my phone back. I just hope jfritzs2 can get back on tonight so i can finish. (glad he is local)

Ok just finished rooting it. LET ME TELL YOU...If you miss a step you start freaking out. There is a lot of stuff that you need to do to a T and i am not kidding a freaking T. If you miss a steap or miss one word you turn into me. (see above posts)

I needed some help from jfritzs2 to calm me down. (he did till i had to go to work)

OK, So i bailed from work early raced home to hopefully chat with jfritzs2 however he was not on. :( (im sure he was busy and its cool i understand)

So i took it upon myself to continue where i left off going back about 5 steps. Did this very very carefully getting angry, anxious, nervous, hyper, almost all emotions came out all day and especially when doing the steps again.

Once i was actually able to get into the rapidshare files like i wanted to to begin when i started it made things easier. I followed TO A "T" and after about hmm 2 hours or so I GOT A working phone! I cant belive it.

Now all i need to do is get with jfritzs2 and figure out how to make the fone better like his.

This is what i got for specs (following Unlockr.com's advice)

First off OMG big diference then what it was looking before.

Hey well I'm back, I hope I can help, but I know that ASU will be at work, so whenever he gets done I'll do what I can to help you, and I will anyone else that needs help I'll do what I can.

Ok after a day use I have noticed that the battery does not last as long. Batterydied after half a shift 6 hours I have seen lots of complaints about gold card. I am proof it works its just extreamly time consuming. Hopefully we can figure out the battery issue once we finish the rooting. BTW texting from phone sorry for mistakes.
