Root root your mytouch 3g!!!

ok day two on the phone. I will try two things different in regards to the battery.

1: No charging at work.
2: Remove beautiful Widgets (man it looks cool)

Lets see if the battery last longer then 6 hours. Btw that is with maybe 40 minutes of use. the rest was standby mode.

Either way still going to finish the rooting process. Not a fan of 1.5 too much. I want my home++ back i miss it :'(

ops forgot to add. Noticed that when the battery is charging and hit 100% it still shows as charging 100%. I think i remember it showing as charged before. Am i missing something?

Hey Don, I'm pretty sure that the only step that you need to finish your rooting is to have the AmonRa 1.5.2 file on the root of your SD, then follow this video -

YouTube - Amon RA's 1.5.2 Recovery and How To Use SwitchROM! =D

Up to about the 3rd minute or so, just where he shows you how to get the recovery image on your phone hopefully when you apply this new recovery image which is the Google version not the H (HTC, but you want the Google) which there is a link to in the information section when you follow the video to youtube. Then go to Cyanogen's Wiki and follow the steps from where it says "File Download" in bold, follow that and apply Cyanogen's Rom by downloading those two zip files and flash them according to how stated, and then you will have finished the rooting.

I just hate to see you have to use stock 1.5

Hopefully if you go all of that you can get moving, then I'll help you with the SuperD stuff later on, but use Cyanogen for now because his rom works for every Radio and SPL, while SuperD is a bit different.

I have no idea, dude. lol Still figuring out what I have here.

Ha, it is a lot to get your head around.

Well, I think this is the coolest thing ever - Internet Tethering - Go to Settings, Wireless, then Internet Tethering, just plug in your USB to a computer and tada!

I know there are other apps for it, but its just cool that its built right in.

Anyway, remember when you are looking for other roms later on, you don't need the Death SPL because its a Mytouch and has more internal memory than the G1. Well, knock your socks off!

Dont mind the 1.5 that much. Phone does seem to fly with the apps as long as i have battery.

ok ...After day 2.

Great on battery life until i got my phone at 8pm. It was DEAD! When i left my phone in my locker i had more then 75% left and that was at 6pm. So for 2 hours my phone must have been getting USED! I did try and see what was using it and the status said nothing. Or at least i could not find anything...

Anywho, ill take a look at the vid in the morning. Just to clarify, watch 3 minutes of the vid and then go to the Cyanogen's Wiki to finish up?

I hate to be a pain in the you know what but which one do i use?

I think its # 4

OK so i did this:

  1. Download the Android 1.6 Recovery Image:
    • for Dev Phone 2, use this image: (DRC83_base_defanged) <-- DOWNLOADED
      • Avoids Android market not working or missing, Data Syncronization settings not working, etc.
  2. Download the latest CyanogenMod ROM for your device:
I just want to be safe with this. I have already screwed up my phone and dont want another episode like before.

O btw will this help with my battery life? I used to get a full 11AM to 12PM with moderate use of playing 3d games, internet, texting, and 2 hours of music before my battery even got low enough to say plug me in. I cant do the 8 hours and dead thing anymore.

Insta: Welcome to the root world even though im still playing catch up :) Stupid work schedule LOL

Just to gloat a teensy bit:

jfritzs2... I downloaded the files needed. Placed them on the SD card.

BTW im on this section... Flash Android1.6 & CyanogenMod latest

I placed this image into the AndroidSDK file on the PC: recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img

Then i did this:
In the Android SDK tools directory run: fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img

First off it did not reboot into recovery it just hung at the home screen (this is waiting about 3 minutes). So i pulled battery booted into recovery by holding home+power

In recovery and it gives me like 6 options...

Says Android system recovery utility
Use track yadda yadda

-Reboot system now
-Apply sdcard: update.zip
-Whipe data/factory reset
-Recovery properties
-Nandroid v2.1.1 backup
-Nandroid v2.1.1 restore

No where in there it says this select "Flash zip from sdcard" which is the next step.

So far i have been just rebooting. What am i missing? I swear i followed it all. Stayed up till 1am and then woke up early today to hopefully squeeze it in before work. (countdown 3 hours till drive)

Thank you,

Insta im jelouse im jelouse of all of you rooters. I want one tooo :'(

apply sdard: update.zip select that and if you have recovery 1.5.2 it should bring up a list of .zip's on your sd card, then select it and press home to confirm flash

you are so close!

No such file or directory Install aborted.

im gonna cry... Going back from start on gold card stuff. Got 10 minutes left before i leave work wish me luck. Soo glad i got two PC's

you can always flash it manually. go into recovery mode(home + power) then select apply sdcard:update.zip, which brings up a list and then select your .zip that you want to flash.

That did not work either. Now my Google won't sync contacts and I get a force close when make a call. I'm fed up some just tell me how to get back to tmobiles 1.6 I really am going to cry.

i apologize i thought you flashed drc83_base.zip first, you must flash that first it will get you back to 1.6 then before exiting recovery flash your update.zip(i would flash either the newest cm v4.2.14.1 or SuperD1.9.3)

your really close, i have the mytouch 3g and did this a couple weeks ago and freaked out the same way

Ok if I do a due restore or swipe back to favtory can and will I get the software back. I'm returning phone. I'm SOP done with roots
