Root root your mytouch 3g!!!

Welcome to the forum. When you start and want to root, GO SLOW! also make sure you let the phone do its thing, read up, listen (if video), and GO SLOW!

When you look for a ROM make sure its for the MT3G (32b). I made the mistake and got the wrong one and bricked it.

I helped a friend yesterday get 2.1 on his phone and from what i hear its AWESOME! Going to check it out when i get to work.

Thanks, you're so right. Would love to hear how your buddy's phone (also MT3G?) runs w/Android 2.1 Was playing with my budyy's Droid last weekend and got so geeked out, lol.

I'm stoked to get my phone today. :D

Yes it also was a my touch,

Ok so checked it out. Over all it was blah. It did not jump out at me like this is the best thing ever.

I too have a buddy with the droid. One thing i did like about that one was the speed. IM A SPEED WHORE!

2.1 had some eye candy new wallpaper's that MOVE. (he had a spinning globe) the icons were alright nothing fancy. Over all playing with it for maybe 5 minutes tops did not get me hooked. Then again it was 5 minutes maybe i need more time.

Now if we can just root the actual speed of the phone to something like the droid then im SOO IN! that might be pushing its limits, I may need to hot wire a cpu fan with heat-sink to it LOL

I'm finally running a version of 2.1. Not 100% comfortable yet, but the 1.6 I ran all weekend was fast. Not really any issues. There are instructions all over and none of them seem 100% accurate.

If I had enough spare time I would put something together. I just home the people out there keep updating these now that the new MT3G is going to be out.
 
so I have had 3-4 random restarts on 2.1. looks memory related. It will get super sluggish and reboot. I might go back the the 1.6 I had over the weekend if this keeps up. the phone takes forever to boot. My iphone is also on deck again.

well i mean if you a rom that is really fast and 2.1 try this for now Android there is a link for kingklicks rom i recomend the Nexus one rom for mt3g

If you are still wondering and the excitement hasn't overcome you, here is the absolute best way to root your phone, in my opinion.

Its an amazing walk through! But this only works for Regular Mytouch v1.0, not Mytouch Fender Edition, and I would wait for confirmation on the Mytouch v1.2 root and whether or not the same method will apply. It should, but you never know.

hey guys. ive had my my touch 3g for a few months now and after hearing about some of the cool stuff some guys at work are able to do with rooted phones i decided to start poking around on here.

the unlocker video seems to be from august 09 - its feb 2010 lol. dunno if maybe tmo had updated anything major since than that could have me possibly brick the phone now.

what is the newest up to date method of rooting and modding the phone? i have all important stuff i want to keep backed up.

i have a 32B mobo apparently and also 1.6 installed? also this morning tmo sent out an update for my phone. please help in anyway possible. sorry if its been answered a hundred times before i just really dont want to brick the phone. from waht ive read, the consensus is go slow and you should be fine
 
alright got it flashed back to cupcake and now im trying to load the new stuff via linda file manager. i cant seem to find the APK. when i download it onto computer it is a zip file. the actual APK file however isnt in it. all i see are a bunch of folders. where am i going wrong?
 
woohoo! i had to use 2 different guides to get it going but i did it. 1st i used the one guide that had me flash back to cupcake. than on a whim i just renamed the zip file to apk and voila - FIXED lol. the unlocker video worked great from there


now to find a nice rom :D

Ok I recently attempted te method used by theunlockr.com and my MyTouch does not seem to be downgrading from 1.6 to 1.5. I am not sure if I am doing it wrong.

I had good luck with the downgrade from page one in this topic. I think insta posted the youtube vid in the message
 
Hey there,

I'm wondering if someone can help me out. I have a MT3G that has been rooted and unlocked and I've been using it for nearly 2 weeks. Ever since I first got it a warning screen pops up that says "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." and then Force Close. This happens when I first turn on the phone and when I try to install ANY app from the market. I also cannot access Google Talk. Once I touch the icon a screen pops up that says "The application Google Talk (process com.google.android.talk) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I have done a factory reset which didn't help, I've tried clearing data from gmail and google talk and nothing has had any affect on the problem. Does anyone know what could fix this?

I paid for that overclocking app and I don't thing I'm seeing a diff. could be because of the rom I'm running. Also noticed my video camera does not work under this rom. and starting to run into memory issues again.
