Root Root your updated LG Marquee phone step by step.

For anyone who's having the 12-second issue:

1. After you installed Windows Enabler (I didn't see "install as admin" when right clicked, but double clicking worked), you should now see a new icon "Windows Enabler 1.1" in the Windows notification area (the area next to your Windows clock on lower right hand corner).

2. Left click on that icon. You should now see "On" for that new icon.

3. Proceed launching KDZ_FW_UPD.

Success! Here's the complete log just in case anyone couldn't get it:

**Also when the phone reboots, do not click "cancel" when it says "finding firmware updates" on the phone.

Also on Step 23, the official name is "wipe cache partition".

Just wondering, if you follow all the steps above (and stick with the stock firmware), your firmware will revert to ZVC and not showing as ZV9, right? Or did Sprint snuck in a stupid update?

Quick root check still shows as rooted but I'm seeing ZVC.

***NVM I see that it'd be the rooted version of standard FW. Thanks!

Thanks sniperruff.
Every time i tried to root my wife's phone. it would just complete boot up. That little tidbit worked perfectly for me. i waited 5 second and started the phone (boost).

Your info should be added to the guide. Thanks again.

Hehehe I made a typo, I'll go back and fix it!

Thanks for the step by step guide - took me a few tries to google what "Windows Enabler" is and then figured maybe I'd need to turn it on!

Just glad that everyone's able to stretch what's possible for this phone.

LOL. Don't feel bad. That's a mistake that quite a few of us have made since it's not actually spelled out in the instructions.

I am stuck in step 11. I have tried it at least 20 times now. I've tried everything from 2 - 15 seconds. My KDZ goes into 'not responding' basically the entire timei s that normal? I am getting very frustrated.

I have everything setup properly on Windows 7 64bit. No probs communicating with phone, USB drivers OK, modem disabled under Device Manager.

*****ALL EDITS and additional updates will be at very bottom below log paste.

Pasted below is my log and attached is the PIC of the error.

Basically
UPGRADE ERROR
WPARAM: 100
LPARAM: 60

My phone is from TING and they use standard SPRINT phones.
Unfortunately, I let it update from stock to ZVC !!! DOH!

I have the timing down perfectly for step 11. For me it is 12 seconds. It runs for about a minute or two, Windows makes the USB device connected/disconnected sounds a few times during this process, then I get this error! I have read through this thread thoroughly. I have even tried factory reset...twice! No success.

PLEASE HELP....I AM SO CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT 1 - 11/24/2012
Forgot to mention I do get USB DEVICE not recognized pop up on taskbar about 20-30 seconds into the process, then about 1 minute later is when the final pop up error message occurs. I have tried installing the usb drivers directly from download and through the LG software program which gives me to extra files to install. Does not matter so far. Same errors, the same way. Tried different PC and even different USB ports - all USB 2.0.

EDIT 2 - 11/24/2012
Success! Well, not fully. lol I was able to revert back to ZV9, got ROOT and confirmed it with ROOT CHECKER. Did not get USB DEVICE error pop up as stated in EDIT #1. Still have to get the rest done but I have to go out for a while, so I will continue later.
What did I do different? One simple thing. I used a different PC. Yes, I tried that before BUT all my other PCs are AMD chipsets. Yeah, I am a bit of a fanboy because I like competition in the market place folks! My gaming PC is a new build. It is an Intel Z77 chipset with an i3570K cpu running Win 7 PRO 64bit.
Like before - I followed the instructions as required (JAVA jdk7u9 for Windows 64bit plus extras like installing MSXML and turning ON the Windows Enabler). I did NOT run the LG tool to download drivers. I just used the manually downloaded and installed the USB drivers, same as before.

At this point, I do not know if this is coincidence or it works better with INTEL. My AMD PCs are all used for work and testing. They are all Phenom IIs from 940-960 with 16 GB of RAM. Not outdated but not cutting edge. Certainly not slow...IMO. lol Maybe the new one is fast and that helped? Maybe it is INTEL? Maybe it is a combo of INTEL, fast and SSD drives? It could also be that my gaming rig is very clean...nothing extra installed. Purely for gaming. Maybe I just got lucky. I tried over 20 some different ways on my main AMD PC, a few ways on my other AMD PCs and they all failed. I tried ONCE on my new INTEL rig and it worked.
Final notes to come by this evening.

EDIT 3 - 11/25/2012
100% Success. Everything worked just fine. Picking up from my last edit, I followed the rest of the steps, flashed the stock rooted mod as a baseline test. It went just fine. I then went on to flash CTMOD 3.75. Do not know if anything is buggy or other problems because I have not tweaked out my phone fully yet. But ROM issues are a different subject altogether.

I'm having the exact same issue as AndroidDudenes, and I'm in a similar situation. I have a refurbished LG Marquee that used to belong to Boost Mobile, but now is Sprint, and my service is Ting.

I get the exact same error messages after trying again and again!

Any insights?

Thanks for the consolidated guide man.

I also bought a refurb boost branded marquee from Ting which shipped without the upgrade. I started at step 12 since I didn't need to downgrade and I'm rooted and making a backup as we speak!

Items of note:

• I'm on a Mac
• VitrualBox running Windows 7 DID NOT work (no matter what I tried). It would find the device but would hang on 'sending exploit binary'.
• VMWare Fusion running Windows XP worked great (go figure). Followed the guide and things went perfect.

Edit: I would also like to thank the authors of the batch files. I've been away from the android OS since the early 2.0 days and I fondly remember all the terminal happiness I had to do through back then to root and maintain my first android. Kudos.

majorburns, I thought of trying XP, but I couldn't figure out how to get it. The only ways I could find were cracked copies, but I'm not really a fan of piracy. I think it should be free, however, considering how old it is :).

Do you know of any legitimate ways to get a copy of XP?

I'm pretty convinced that it's VirtualBox and Windows 7 that are messing me up.

I would not purchase it unless you really intend to use it...like every day. It is perfectly legal to download a 'pirated' copy and legal to TRY IT for 30 days without any need to activate. Even Microsoft CURRENTLY states that you can BUY a copy but if you do not activate it within 30 days you are entitled to a refund. Try it under VMWARE, do what you need to do for your phone, then delete the VM machine once done. There is NOTHING ILLEGAL about this process.

Really! I had no idea XP can still be purchased!
Thanks, The~Skater~187.

Same for win7, and you can find legitimate iso downloads (no torrent/pirate headaches).

This procedure was one of the two or three reasons that I even have a windows install on my laptop at all.

I'm having the same problem several others have already reported. The KDZ updater hangs for a while, then I get the "Model Dll Msg Not Found", and my phone fully boots. I've tried waiting everywhere from 0-30 seconds. What's frustrating is this is my second Marquee, so I'd like to think I know what I'm doing, and I'm using the exact same computer that I used to root the first one. Any chance boost has patched this exploit on newer Marquees? I bought this one brand new, directly from Boost's website.

I don't know if this was a fluke or what, but I accidently left my phone on when I did the "Launch KDZ update" and it worked.

EDIT: Worked perfectly after leaving the phone on to do the KDZ update. Thanks for this thread!

I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this, so forgive me if the answer is out there and I'm just not sure how to ask the question properly.

I recently got a refurbished LG Marquee from Ting mobile. I'm interested in trying a stock rom or modded rom. From what I understand, the Marquee is a re-branded LG Optimus Black. Will I be able to put an Optimus Black rom on the Marquee, or do I need to find Marquee specific rom's?

Thank you!

No. You will need to flash a ROM like CTMod. Here is a link to the Ting thread here in this section. You should be able to get some info there. You can also get some good info in the CTMod thread.

Thanks so much for this step-by-step, major help.

Only problem I had is that I couldn't get my SD card to mount in CWM

So I threw in an old 2gb card and was able to flash CTMOD through CWM with no issues.

Not sure if Its related to the file systems being different (FAT16 on the 2 gb vs FAT32 on the 8gb I couldn't get working) or just a poor quality card.

Either way, I almost lost hope, but Alas things are as they should be, finally.
