Root Root

why are you going back and forth...

i was only going back and forth becuase when i rooted the phone, the settings menu and the manage apps menu did not work until i unrooted the phone. somehow, in the process of going back and forth my phone crashed in the middle of the process and i though i was going to have a boat anchor on my hands but it wound up being rooted and with the settings menu working... i left it alone at that point and it's been working ever since.

I had this same issue. Turns out if you grant your settings app superuser permissions, things mess up in the settings menu as well as the application manager. In order to fix simply open up the SuperSU app, click settings, change access to DENY and notifications to disable. Reboot your phone and you're good to go!
interesting... i have the settings option set grant and everything seems to be working fine.

OK just got the new commando. Stupid question. Should I activate the phone BEFORE I root it or after.
I would assume after, but thought I would ask!

Thanks

PS: whats up with a full backup image/recovery

and roms? i dont know anything about modern stuff i used to flash custom roms on WM6.5 way back with my HTC apache/diamond, is it the same on android?

Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time posting...I recently got my G'zone Commando 4G LTE, and like with all my android devices, I wanted to root it. I followed the instructions on page 1 and was rooted in no time. Just pay attention when installing the unlockroot program to make sure it don't install any junk adware files.

I would also suggest to install Voodoo OTA Root Keeper from the Play market to keep root when VZW decides to do an over the air update to the Commando.

I just attempted to download the unlock root and it got to 72% and the virus software tagged it and it stopped.

Is there a clean unlock root program that someone can possibly share. I tried it a few times and it was caught by the antivirus.

Should I risk turning off the AV software for the download? Not sure about the risks.

Thanks

yeah you should turn av off, and dont install the crazy add stuff.. of if you do, have your AV quarantine the whole app after rooting.

unitypunk
Thanks for the advice. Loaded the program and have the icon on the desktop. I plugged the phone in, clicked on the program and nothing. The laptop or the phone did nothing. Tried a few times and it looks to start loading, but nothing happens.:(
Wifi on, USB set to connected as media device (loaded the driver), USB debugging on. Tried it both ways.

Did I forget a step or something? Should wifi be off?

the file you download is an installer.

install the application and run it, it should give you some shitty options to install addware, avoid it, then install the program, run it and follow the steps if it doesnt run, i dont know what to tell you, as i dont have any more expirence with it then install, root, uninstall. sorry partner

That is exactly what I did. Skipped everything, watched it download, with my AV off. It completed and even placed an icon on the desktop.
Wonder if my AV program, after turning it back on after the download, maybe quarantined it to prevent it from running?
Is that a possibility? I use Norton 360.

I will check and see if it did.

OK turned off AV, removed the quarantined files to clear the memory, reloaded the Unlock/Root program from the link in this thread.
It loaded and installed correctly (ad far as I can tell), installed the icon on the desktop.

Plugged in my phone, USB debugging on, wifi off. Click on the program and I get the spinning circle next to the arrow, then nothing! Not sure why it wont run!

I even tried the other unlock root program it installed. One is Unlock/root and unlock/root pro. Neither worked.
Do I need the bootloaded that is offered on the site?

FINALLY!!

Had to load the program on my desktop and it worked flawlessly! Phone is rooted and I'm in the process of eliminating all the bloatware!!

Not sure what the heck the problem was with my laptop and it not wanting to load. This is great to finally have a rooted phone - - - again!!

Thanks much!

is your laptop windows 7?
i tried it on my laptop running 7 first, got no luck, then on my arcaic windows xb desktop, no luck, then on my friends win7 and it worked fine... id bet money that app is poorly written.

check out my other thread in root for a list of "Safe" apps to remove from the device!

Both my laptop and desktop are running W7 and both have the same Norton 360 av program running. Laptop would not let it load. Desktop was installed and done in 5 min!

still betting on cheap coding.. i bet that app is slapped together in china to dig up personal info on american rooters. lol

Seriously... why does anyone trust a pre-packaged .exe that roots a phone? How do you know it doesn't plant trojans on the phone to steal your information?

In the past, several root scripts have come in Linux versions, where you could unzip the script and see everything that was being done. Is there such a beast for this phone? I don't have a Windows computer anywhere in my house.

Have been rooted for months with the unlockroot pro method.
About an hour ago my commando just randomly went into a bootloop in my pocket.

Cant even get the computer to recognize it right now...

Looks like a trip to the Verizon store is in order.

So went to verizon store...

An hour later my phone works again.

Found that to get to the stock recovery you have to;

Reboot phone

at the GZ'one loading... screen you,

hold down power, volume up, and the menu key until it vibrates.\

Brings you into stock recovery where you can only say yes or no to wiping the phone to stock.

Hope this is somehow useful

interesting, good to know they gave us a way to recover stock image with this new one.. ill be much more interested in fiddling with it knowing i can reset to factory, and then just recover my shit with TIbackup

i had a problem starting adb... im using ubuntu 99% of the time, but that app was windows, and my pc is 64bit, i had to download android sdk and install casio drivers (which are on the phone) after that it worked fine. im rooted and have frozen like 23 apps. working on a full list on the other thread
Had down load and install sdk too! then it worked.

Menu key?????? Are you referring to the tactile key under the volume rocker?
That is the only other physical button on the phone.
