Root Rooted, do I need a custom ROM to overclock?

Hello,

First of all, I love this forum! I have found so much useful info about rooting etc.

So I successfully rooted my G2 and I want to overclock it, but all the tutorials I have found said that I need a custom ROM that supports ADB Remounting. I'm using Launcherpro Plus and really like it and would like to avoid using a custom ROM if possible.

But if I need a new ROM, are there any that are like Launcherpro?
Can I still use Launcherpro?
What will happen when I get a new ROM, will it delete all my data or is it possible to back up EVERYthing and then just restore it after I flash the new ROM?

I've been looking for so long on info about this, but I can't find any =/ I feel like this is such a basic question but I can't seem to find the information I need

To overclock any device you need a custom ROM, which has nothing to do with Launcher pro; that's just your home replacement. You can use whatever you want after you install a new rom, just make sure you back up your data before flashing it:

App: Titanium Backup

okay, so I just copy the file to my sdcard, reboot into recovery mode and then apply the zip update?

Or do I have to flash it and then apply the zip update? I don't know how to flash it =/

install rom manager from the market, flash clockwork recovery then choose download rom, baconbits its under cyanogenmod
