Root Rooted Evo $G

Hello all, I have a rooted htc evo 4g, I am trying to upgrade the phone to gingerbread 2.3, it keep giving me an error. It download the file but when it try to upgrade to my phone it errors out and I have to take the battery out to get the phone back on. any help will be appreciated.

Are you trying to accept an OTA update? If so, don't because your phone is rooted. You should be flashing a Gingerbread ROM not taking an OTA update.

Can you access recovery?

Yes, i can get into recovery. Can you tell me what to do i am wide open. I am out to lunch right now....
Good! Do you know what recovery you have?
And were you trying to flash a rom or what?
Like Tube said, do not accept an OTA update.
You just need a custom rom to update:D

revolutionary cwn v4.0.1.4
Clockworkmod recovery?
If so, I recommend you change that recovery to a more reliable recovery such as Amon ra.
Before we do that, could you post back everything that is stated in your hboot screen?
Disable fastboot in your settings---perhaps in menu/settings/applications---
power off phone, wait a few seconds, hold volume down button while pushing power button....that will bring you into your bootloader screen.
Thanks.:)

Nice....and I recommend this recovery.

Do you know how to change your recovery?
If not, see this
1.download the PC36IMG for your software version above.
2.rename the file so that it is only PC36IMG. make sure that you do not add any extra .zip's to the name as windows hides extensions by default.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any folder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more.

Edit: then we can recommend a rom for you to flash. :)

Sorry, I been in the hospital. Can you recommend what rom I need to flash.

its all good, no need to be sorry. just glad that all is well with you.

as far as what rom to flash, well that is sort of an opinion. but we have http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html. in it it has a staff picks section that has some really good suggestions for roms. and if you want more info on roms and such check out the second post as well.

now i would recommend that you start out with mikg3.11 and flash the full wipe version. but that is just a suggestion. the other staff picks are great as well depending on what you are looking for.

+1 to what Ocn suggested! I started out on MikG when I rooted and I ran with that for several months:) It is very nice! And like he linked, there are others if you decide to either not flash MikG, or just do not like it. Happy flashing, and feel free to ask us if you are not clear on anything else:D
