burnt

Newbie
ok hopefully the smart people of android forums can help me... i have a rooted incredible with the hydra kernel. i had the 1.13 and went to the 1.15 over clock kernel and my pone went into a reboot cycle and wouldnt start up. i was told to go to the format boot in the clockwork recovery so i did. now the phone will only start up in the bootloader screen it does the sd card check. any ideas? they are sending me a new phone but i really dont want to re set up the phone.

If you're able to get just to recovery, you can try restoring the nandroid backup that you should have done prior to making the change. If you didn't, there's always the option of flashing the factory rom onto it.

i didnt do a nandroid backup! oops.. anything else i can do? i downloaded the stock rom from hydras web site still nothing

Who the hell starts doing things such as changing kernels without doing a Nandroid backup?

You probably dont want to send back a rooted phone with clockwork recovery on there. Not saying this will happen, but they can charge you full retail price, $529.99, for the replacement since this is something you did to the phone. It takes a few months to show up on the bill. Again there is no guarantee they will catch it but it's highly possible since the phone only boots up into the boot loader.

yea it might be safer to just run over it with your car and file the insurance claim.

well apperantly I did!!! Thanks for the help

I am just saying if you were a noob who didn't know any better I could kinda understand (even though every thread says DO A NANDROID BACKUP)

But just for the fact that you're changing kernels means you're advanced enough to know that skipping a Nandroid backup is your way of spitting in the rooting Gods face.

Anyway I do hope you can figure out your problem as it is a crappy thing to have to go through so goodluck to you.

Not necessarily... I was a complete n00b as of 2 months ago. The only smartphone I ever owned was a Helio Ocean back in 2007. I figured out root, ROM and Kernal flashing with no problems. There are a ton of step by step instructions for this stuff. I did a backup, but I could have easily skipped this step. There is not a lot of info on how to Nandroid backup(at least there was not a week or so ago).

Burnt. Try this. http://androidforums.com/all-things...ideo-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html
Get that file on your SD card and you should be able to restore your phone. You will loose your apps, contacts, etc but at least your phone will work. Good Luck!
FYI: some people (myself included) were having issues with getting the phone to recognize the file. If you have this issue, just reformat the sd card.

oh im for sure a newbie. I just watched lots of you tube vids and did a lot of reading. apparently the incredible is pretty hard but i thought it was fun! any way ya somehow i didnt get the nandroid memo.... it was woring awesom with the hydra undervolt with the 1.13 over clock i just got greddy and tried the 1.15 thats where we went wrong.

Chances are high that you're fine. Don't forget to thank Taylored for the link and Diego for the vid. Follow it and update from the SD card and lesson learned. Reroot and this time, do a Nand backup afterward. ;)

followed the vid no luck still instantly reboots into recovery. to make it worse i got my replacement rooted it did a nandroid backup and installed the hydra1.13 kernel everything was great!!! woke up to a bricked phone!! FML now im back to trying to fix the fist one

You realize you have 10 days days to send back the replacement or your old phone to Verizon right? If you dont they are going to charge your account full retail cost for the phone, $529.99. Hell you might as well keep both because if you send back a bricked phone that is rooted and has a different recovery they will more than likely charge you anyway.

ok! so you have to format the sd card to fat32 then download the image onto the card and it will work just so ya all know. the first original dinc is up and running and i sent the refurb back.....still trying to figure out how i bricked the replacement?? it worked awesome with the hrdra kernel 1.13 on it. also got the root thing down to a science woot!

buddy life is too short to worry so damn much!! i have buddies at vzw and they get about $500 from me a month im not stressin it. i have sent phones back a month late and never get charged.

still confused how you could brick a phone... i have messed up plenty of times and never had it actually brick and not be fixable
