Root Rooting a EVO w/ Gingerbread

HELP!!!

I have tried to use unrevoked and it says my frimware is to new. I tried to use virus kingdom also and when I try to recover after sending the file to my SD, I get a red triangle with an exclamation point in the middle. I wiped my memory and my SD and nothings working. I can careless if it bricks, I just want to be rooted. Pls help, i been at this for two days straight and the wifes is getting pissed (lol).

Oh yea, after I download anything and power the phone off to go into recovery I have to take the battery out for the phone to go into reboot mode.

Yea I think I did, cause I took my phone into Sprint last week to get the lens fixed and they automatically updated my phone. Theres a guy at my job who has the same phone and versions and he's rooted.

How long are we looking at for a new ota and when it comes out where is the best place to find it?. A buddy of mine got his nexus last week and he is rooted also with the same update i have. Is there a name im looking for 4 the new ota's, sorry im a newbie.

Not wanting to be rude and I know that you need help. However with a little reading on this site on over at XDA you would see that nothing has been done yet. I really want to root my phone as well. I feel where you are coming from. Also if you can careless if you brick you phone, then there isn't really a reason to root is there? Just sayin.......

ok so the latest ota gave the evo gingerbread (2.3.3) and the software for it is 4.24.651.1. if you accepted or if the sprint tech updated your evo, you will have to wait for a new exploit to be found. it could be really soon or it might take a few months. anytime and ota like gingerbread is released, htc/sprint closes up the previous exploit(a weakness in the phones security). so now the devs need to find a new exploit so that those that are not rooted can use that exploit to root their phone. that is why we never recommend that anybody who wants to root their phone, to never accept an otas. so now it is a waiting game for new evo owners, unfortunately.

I understand, my question is how did the guy at work with the same update, same phone and my buddy with the nexus w/ gingerbread get rooted? My coworker probably says he has gingerbread but doesnt really have it. I know his build number has virus kingdom while mine has release keys. His software is the same as mine 4.22

there are rooted stock versions of the ota that is available to rooted phones. plus there are plenty custom roms out now that has the gingerbread ota. if you want to take a peek at them, you can look at the rom/kernel sticky at the top of this forum.

Is there an issue with evo when i try to recover if gives me a red triangle with an exclamation point? I found out that I hv a supersonic with the s chip on, if that helps any

yes you have a stock unrooted rom and a stock recovery. you need to be rooted to flash anything. the red exclamation point just means that you do not have access to your stock recovery. once you have s-off you can change it to a custom one. but there is no new exploit yet so you have to wait.

no worries, just stay tune here. this forum will blow up with threads about the new exploit. we will have a sticky on how to root when it becomes available.

Hi.. new here. I also have the same problem.

Is there a way to revert back to froyo then root ?

Not until the newest hboot can be unlocked. The system will reject using anything to downgrade it until then. Froyo or Gingerbread isn't the issue. The security in the bootloader is the main part of rooting. Once you can unlock nand(get s-off) you can change anything on your phone.

Oh. I get it now. I've had my EVO since the first release. Finally after seeing the sense version on the EVO 3d..I convinced myself to try rooting. And now I can't. Ugghh. Oh well. Thank you.

Keep checking back here. There will be a sticky at the top and alot of posts about it when it happens.

It was rather disappointing that they didn't include Sense 2.1 at least in the Gingerbread update.

I made the above mistake of unrooting my phone, flashing a stock rom, and did the OTA BEFORE I read that it has been available and before I read the cautions not to. Sigh, ok. I ALREADY miss my root! Anyway, is there a place I can get updates from the devs, specifically unrevoked? Wont make THAT mistake again! ^^^^^
