Root Rooting Affecting Battery Life?

I'm only a couple days into the rooting experience on my EVO, but it feels like my battery is going quicker right off the bat. I haven't messed with any new ROMs or kernels yet...just installed a few popular root apps...wifi tether, root explorer, rom manager. Would any of these apps affect the battery more than a regular non-root app? Does the phone just being rooted have any affect? I would think not...

Simply having rooted the device doesn't affect battery life - I'm on my third rooted device and I love it. However, the apps you install to take advantage of root privileges is another story. I have heard that anything to do with wifi tethering or mobile AP can drain the battery faster than usual.

Nope, being rooting alone should not affect battery life;)

If you want you can reset your battery stats in recovery, may give you a better indication of your battery life

Plug phone into charger
Charge the phone to full 100%
Boot to recovery
Wipe battery stats
Reboot phone
Unplug phone from charger
Drain battery to 0%, until phone completely turns off
Plug phone into charger
Charge phone back to 100%( Do not unplug phone until completely charged)

Use phone normally

Is that something everyone should do?

It's not really necessary imo, unless you read and understand what you're doing. After you flash a new rom it may take a few charge cycles for everything to mesh and stabalize nice and nice.

I may be speaking gibberish, but this seems to be the case on my phone. First 2-3 times I charge after I flash a new rom the battery sucks. Then it calms down and it's back to 20+ hours with Toastmod.
