Root Rooting after official 2.3 update?

puballday

Lurker
Hi, like an idiot, the other day i could not wait to get my hands on gingerbread so went to HTC developers site and got their RUU update and my phone is now on 2.3.
Today however, i decided to root my phone and try other cool roms out. I downloaded the windows USB driver and ran it with phone on the boot menu screen, then ran the unrevoked tool, which successfully rebooted my phone, then started trying to apply the root after it rebooted but after a couple of minutes told me something along the lines of it not being able to do it and asking if my firmware is too new (which obviously, it is :s).

So yeah, is that me done with? Am i stuck with a locked phone and be happy with HTCs 2.3 release, or is there a saving grace that will allow me to get this thing unlocked? Is it something that hasnt been worked out yet?

Cheers in advance, awaiting anxiously for your generous support

I haven't seen any. I understand Paul O'brien achieved temp root and thats as much as I am aware currently.

I wonder if the signature system is the same on this hboot?! Kind of wish I had a spare desire to play with but theres no way I'm RUUing mine.

Hmm I'm wondering if people could temp root, pull recovery for backup and use flash_image to flash recovery

I dunno. I wanted to take the system.img and boot.img and add root to it using dsixda. But then there is the signature issue. I wonder what unyaffs could find in the original system.img.

How / where does the signature work? At what point of modifying a system.img does the PB99IMG.zip notice a change in signature. Its not Md5 or anything

hmm, looks like i've ruuined it then, just as i feared :(
Ah well, my own fault i guess, ill just have to like what i have for time being

Just wondering but if u had S-OFF with AlpharevX or Alpharev would it survive the RUU or would you lose S-off and have no way to flash a custom recovery ?
