Root Rooting - Corrupted SD Card/Partitioning

I finally took thee plunge and rooted my phone, removed Facebook, Peep, Twitter etc and moved everything moveable to the SD card using Link2SD. I was surprised to find I still only have between 80 and 90mb free, not a lot better than before.

I read that it was best to partition my 32GB SD card so I did so and the first problem was that my PC could only see one partition. So I deleted the partition but the card wasn't recognised at all.

I then tried formatting the card and was told Windows could not complete the format and now neither the PC nor the phone can see the card.

I have ordered a new card but am reluctant to try partitioning it and I wondered just what the advantage is of doing so.

Can anyone tell me please?

I have solved the corrupt card. I just put it back in the phone and selected "Erase Files" from the SD card settings. After that it's working again so now I have a new one coming that I don't need.

Thank you, that was the guide I used originally but I think I must have done something wrong. I'm not as worried about trying again since I was able to rescue my card. I will try again when I get the chance but I'll print off the guide first.

Yeah I know it looks scary and complicated and all but if you follow it properly, you shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure you read it properly and maybe even watch a few yutube videos if there are any.
I was also scared to try it at first but then got the courage to it and it worked :D

Calomax, it is necessary to partition the card to get the most out of Link2sd. Here's how:
[TUTORIAL][Link2SD][ROOT]Updated! How to prep your SD card for it...Windoze Style - xda-developers

Also, I've moved this thread into the All Things Root section since these things are only possible on a rooted device.

Cheers!
Shows that when all else fails, read the instructions. I printed them off and followed them and it worked flawlessly. the only thing that wasn't really clear was that you need to link to SD card with Link2 SD, not move to SD card. Once I discovered that is works like a dream.

Your Wildfire S has a new lease on life now! :thumb:
Yes, I've currently got 97.84mb free. I've never had more than 90 before and usually between 60 and 70.

BUT I'm now being offered a system update but when I try to install it starts off ok then, when the green line is about a quarter of the way along, it stops and the display shows a picture of a phone with a red triangle.

Last night I gave it 4 hours then realised it was stuck so I took the battery out although the instructions said not to. But I had to get the Sim card out so if I had wrecked the phone there was nothing lost anyway.

Luckily the phone booted up fine. But I keep being offered the update and have tried to install it twice more with the same result.

My guess is that this is because the phone is rooted, If so I could do with a way to stop the update being offered.
