Im thinking about rooting my desire(non hd), just a few questions, i understand a gold card isnt needed to root correct, does this page have everything i need or is it the same as this 1 rooting guide page, i also notice on that link it says htc sync is needed ut i never got along with sync as it wouldnt see my phone so is sync needed or can i use an alternative ?

Thanks

you only install htc sync for the phone drivers, this is explained in the guide

the guides hold everything you need.
be aware if your hboot is not below 0.93 you will need to use revolutionary.io
this is also explained

Apart from the background research from the great info on this site, all the instructions are here How To Gain S-Off, Flash a Custom Recovery, and Root Your Android Phone Using the Revolutionary Method | TheUnlockr

I did it all yesterday right though to getting Cyanogenmod7.
